Building News, 1903

  • "Reconstruction of the Midland Hotel, Birmingham". Building News and Engineering Journal. 18 September 1903.

The Internet Archive's copy of the above volume is missing several sets of pages of illustrations, including most of pp. 375–394. These should include a copy of the image reproduced with watermark and at low resolution, on Archiseek.

@Pigsonthewing: I've got the Archiseek illustration, along with the other illustrations that were around it. Please send me an email, and I'll attach the pictures to the reply. It was between pages 399-400, and apparently was left out of the archive.org scan for some reason. Additionally, the book was extremely fragile, so I used my phone camera instead of a scanner. @ARandomName123, unfortunately no page range. Mike Nock should be mentioned amongst Johnny Devlin, Bob Paris Combo, Phil Warren and Prestige Records. @Jimmyjrg:I can't find a mention of Mike Nock after skimming through the book a couples of times. I did find a few lines about Phil Warren/Johhny Devlin, with the most coverage being this in the prologue:

The first signs of the coming revolution were seen here in the late fifties when Johnny Devlin released his raucous version of Lawdy Miss Clawdy on Phil Warren's Prestige label. (Now you know why Phil kept cropping up as a judge on those TV talent shows.) This record sold 100,000 copies, and was the first gold record awarded to a Kiwi rocker. Six months of touring the country as a result of this monster hit had a huge influence on the aspirations of hundreds of would-be rockers who flocked to his shows. The golden age of rock'n'roll was about to dawn.

Neue deutsche Biographie

For Draft:Hermann Warmbold

All I need from the book is pages 183-184. I know they relate to him because I can see a snippet on Google Books, but not the whole thing which I need to fill in some blanks. I don't think the 1953 date is correct - I believe it is volume 27, which was published in 2020 and covers Vockerodt - Wettiner according to Neue Deutsche Biographie. I don't think it is digitized yet on the database (https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/sfz133656.html#index), since there is no article.

@Apollo468: Neue deutsche Biographie is accessible for free via https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/, both HTML full text and scans of the print edition. Hermann Warmbold has an index entry https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/sfz133656.html, but no individualized article. In the print edition, he is mentioned in the article about his brother-in-law Ernst Wagemann (strangely, there is no cross-reference to this article in his index entry.) Best way of citation is by using the template {{NDB}}:

It would be really great to have all of the introduction and discussion at the front (all of the pages marked with roman numerals), the "Annexe" and indices (p. 667 to the end of the book), and the commentary (which is somewhere in pp. 1–666, probably the last part). @ARandomName123: Yes, everything except the hymns, as they're marked in that TOC (ie., everything except pp. 1–666) – I had been hoping for the commentary as well, which I assumed was a distinct section within pp. 1–666, but that TOC seems to indicate otherwise, meaning the commentary probably comes after each individual hymn, so better to exclude it I think (as selectively picking out all those pages would be a right pain). – Michael Aurel (talk) 22:13, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
