Chavo Guerrero, Jr. (born January 7, 1971 in El Paso, Texas as Salvador Chavito Guerrero III) or simply "Chavo Guerrero" is a member of a prominent Mexican professional wrestling family who currently wrestles in World Wrestling Entertainment on Smackdown!. Chavo is from El Paso, Texas which is the home of his legendary Guerero relatives.
His grandfather Gory Guerrero is one of the most famous wrestlers in Mexican history. His father, Chavo Guerrero, Sr., was also a legendary wrestler in Mexico, and worked in WWE as a part-time wrestler and full-time manager. One of his uncles, Eddie Guerrero, is currently one of WWE's biggest stars. Eddie also performs for the SmackDown! brand, as did Chavo Sr. aka Chavo Classic before his recent firing from WWE. Chavo has two other uncles who have had successful careers in the business, although not at the level of Gory, Chavo Sr., or Eddie.
Career
While in World Championship Wrestling, Chavo shared the limelight with his uncle Eddie, becoming a reluctant ally of his uncle's. As part of their storyline, Eddie would continually try to make Chavo adopt Eddie's cheating tactics, but Chavo often refused to do so. Eventually, his treatment at the hands of Eddie would drive him "insane" and Chavo adopted the gimmick of a psycho fixated with a hobby-horse he dubbed "Pepè". This lead to an infamous feud with Norman Smiley, which resulted in Smiley tossing Chavo's horse into a wood chipper.
After the demise of WCW, Chavo was eventually signed by the WWE. He spent time as an undercard wrestler before becoming a trainer for one of the WWE's Tough Enough competitions. Soon after returning to the active roster, Chavo was aligned with his uncle Eddie, forming the successful tag team "Los Guerreros". In contrast to his previous WCW storyline with his uncle, Chavo fully adopted his uncle's policy of "Lie, Cheat and Steal" to win matches as part of the gimmick. The duo would soon win the tag titles.
The tag team eventually turned face and as Eddie's popularity grew, Eddie began seeking the WWE Title. In a storyline, his uncle's singles title ambitions made Chavo jealous and Chavo broke from the team and became a heel wrestler in the cruiserwieght devision soon capturing the WWE Cruiserwieght title on several occasions.
On an August 24, 2004 taping of SmackDown!, Chavo Guerrero suffered a concussion due to Billy Kidman's Shooting Star Press and had to be taken to hospital. Chavo's partner that night, Jamie Noble, was supposed to pull Chavo out of the ring but failed to do so. Noble's contract was terminated shortly thereafter.
Chavo returned several months later as a good guy (face), extracting revenge from Kidman, but shortly returned to his heel cruiserweight persona by turning his back on the fans. Chavo went on to become Cruiserweight Champion once again at No Way Out on February 20, 2005.
