Appearances

Rebecca Chambers first appeared as a supporting character in the original Resident Evil. She was a field medic for Bravo Team and appears only in Chris' scenario. Chris relies on Rebecca during puzzles which required her superior intellect such as playing a piano or mixing chemicals. Furthermore, the player would also take control of Rebecca in situations in which Chris would be unavailble depending on the circumstances. The player could also decide to leave the mansion with or without her, allowing herself to become vurnerable later on when the mansion is repopulated with Hunters, allowing the opportunity to either: rescue her or leave her for dead. The player also has the choice to meet Rebecca in the corridor where Richard Aiken is located prior to entering the mansion's drug room.

In the remake, the player will always meet Rebecca with Richard (regardless of which room you go first). While the scenario is more linear compared to the original (excluding the fact that the player now has the opportunity to save Richard, if only for a short moment), Rebecca will still be attacked by a Hunter upon returing to the mansion regardless of the player's earlier actions.

Rebecca would later become the main heroine in Resident Evil Zero, a prequel to the original Resident Evil that highlights the situation of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. Her role in the prequel showed Rebecca as a much more powerful and heroic character than the supporting role she had in the original game.

Since the events of the original Resident Evil, she has been absent from all other game-related events with the exception of being depicted in a photo and mentioned in a letter during the events of Resident Evil 2.

In the live-action sequences of the original game, she was potrayed by an unknown actor credited as "Linda". In the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, she was voiced by Hope Levy.

Story

A member of STARS Bravo Team, Rebecca Chambers is a young, talented and slightly overconfident field medic who had the worst luck of the draw with first mission assignments.

In July of 1998, the STARS Bravo Team was deployed into the Arklay Mountain region, on the outskirts of the mountain town Raccoon City. They had been assigned to investigate the bizarre and grisly murders that had been occurring in the region recently, in which victims were being eaten by a group of ten or more people.

While heading towards the scene, the Bravo Team helicopter experienced some engine failure, and forced them to make a landing in the woods. Kevin Dooley remained with the helicopter (he would later be killed by ravenous zombie dogs known as Cerebrus and would be the first discovered by STARS Alpha Team). Shortly after leaving the helicopter, Bravo Team left the helicopter, they stumbled upon an overturned prison transport truck with deceased guards scattered about. A document in a suitcase told them that these men were transporting ex-marine Billy Coen to a military base where he would be executed. Enrico Marini, leader of Bravo Team, ordered the group to spread out and look for Coen.

During her search, Rebecca stumbled upon a train mysteriously parked in the middle of the forest. In addition, it was absent of any living occupants. Bodies were laying across seats, and the place smelt of death. Further exploration showed that the train was occupied by strange and mutated zombies. As she stumbles around the area, trying to figure out what is going on, she runs into Billy Coen. She attempts to arrest him, but he casually brushes her off. They encounter once more in the dining car, where Billy saves her life, and they decided to team up. The train lurches, and they realize they are speeding down the tracks.

From behind the scenes, Albert Wesker and William Birkin are calling the shots. They order the train destroyed, but the members of Delta Team are killed by ravenous leaches. So, Billy and Rebecca activate the breaks and crash the train into the station of an apparently secret and supposedly abandoned training facility for Umbrella Incorporated.

As they delve into the mystery surrounding the zombies, the leaches, and the mysterious man in the white robe, they become entangled in a revenge vendetta between the manager of the facility and creator of the T-Virus, James Marcus, and his two competitive pupils and would-be assassins, Wesker and Birkin.

Briefly, Billy and Rebecca are seperated as they investigate a giant lab buried underneath the Arklay region. Rebecca runs into Enrico, and he tells her that the rest of Bravo Team is holding up in a mansion further on past the underground lab. After Enrico leaves, Rebecca says in a sullen voiceover narration "That was the last time I saw him."

After finding Billy, the two faced off against James Marcus who has gone quite mad and allows himself to be taken over by leaches. After his defeat, the duo battled against the Queen Leach. After exposing it to sunlight - a fatal weakness - Rebecca tosses Billy a magnum revolver. Billy levels the weapon and yells "Hey Queen, feast on this" before firing a single round that blows a hole in the Queen the size of a truck tire.

The facility then explodes, and everything is engulfed in flame (thanks to William Birkin). Rebecca and Billy escape to the top of a hill, and as Rebecca looks down, she sees the Spencer Mansion that Enrico mentionned. She takes Billy's dogtags and tells herself that Lieutentant Billy Coen is dead. She is sure of his innocence, and is willing to stake her career on it. Billy smiles and says to himself that he's a zombie now.

And so, Rebecca departs to the Spencer Mansion to be entangled in an entirely new web of horror.

Wardrobe

In the original Resident Evil, Rebecca is seen wearing a STARS unfirom matching green t-shirts and pants with a white bulletproof vest overtop. The medic symbol is printed on the back of her bulletproof vest. She also wears black, fingerless gloves and boots. She also wore a red bandanna, which has been omitted in the remake and Resident Evil 0.

In the Arranged Mode featured in Resident Evil: Director's Cut, she wore a streamlined, burgundy-colored version of her uniform, which consisted of shorts and a midriff-showing t-shirt. In Resident Evil remake, her alternate costume is a cowgirl outfit consist of a brown cowboy vest, boots and jean shorts. This costume was carried over to Resident Evil 0 along with another alternate costume consisting of leather pants and a halter top with long fingerless gloves.
