Wikipedia Editing Exercise - Articles that may Need Improvement
Here are the five Wikipedia articles I found that may benefit from further editing:
- I did my dissertation on information behavior, so the first thing that came to my mind regarding editing on Wikipedia is this term. The way it is presented on Wikipedia is comprehensive, but as I scroll down to the topics of Models, I think the paragraph on "Everyday life information seeking model" can be expanded to include a bit more. For example, there are the three basic concepts (i.e., way of life, life ___domain, and information search in everyday life) mentioned on the page already, but what do they mean?
- I work on this campus, so the second thing I searched for for this assignment is this venue. The body text looks fine, except for one sentence, “The hospital employs more than 650 doctors,” which I think would need a citation to support the claim. I did not have this information even working here! The other area for improvement on this page is the absence of an article about BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, although there is one for BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
- I am originally from Taiwan, so when I browsed Wikipedia's Stub improvement page, I intuitively searched for Taiwan and see if there is anything I may contribute. This hospital is where my brother has been working at so I clicked on it when I found it’s a Stub page! Drawing from its Chinese page[1], I think the English page can be expanded to include topics like history, different branches, and clinics and services. An image of hospital logo can be added as well.
- I graduated from the University of Illinois, so the next stub category I went to is the Illinois university stub. Krannert Art Museum is the art museum on our campus. I've been there once and think it would be great to expand the article. This could include anything on the official website[2] but not included in the Wikipedia page, such as the mission statement, architecture, and even a list of directors. The current image of the building could be updated as well to give a clearer view of the main entrance.
- This is another stub article I found when going through the Illinois university stub. This one is shorter than the Krannert Art Museum, and similarly, I think more information from the official website[3] can be included on the current Wikipedia page. For example, the mission statement, history, and even some info picked up from their annual reports. UI Press does a great job updating its annual reports on the website. Some book series might also be worth considering, but it is important to pay attention to which book or journal should be included, if there is a reason not to include everything.
