Pergament Home Centers was a former home improvement store chain in the New York tri-state area, with a heavy concentration of stores in New York; however, they had a few stores in New Jersey. They were a home improvement store similar to Rickel, who had a fairly diverse range of products. These stores did reasonably well until Modell's closed many of its Shoppers World outlets in 1989 and Home Depot moved into the area. Unfortunately Pergament was unable to compete.
In the 1990s, Pergament closed its New Jersey stores and focused their business on their stores in the five boroughs of New York City. These stores would eventually close with the liquidation of Pergament in 2001.
Pergament continues to own much of the land and buildings that once were Pergament stores, and the company continues to operate in real estate. One of the largest stores was in Westbury, New York and is now Micro Center.
