String squeak is an industry term for the squeak sound a guitar makes when the musician quickly slides his or her fingers along the string. This normally takes place when changing chords requires the musician to move up or down the neck as opposed to simply changing fingering.
Examples
String squeak is considered unprofessional by some listeners or music technicians. It is often eliminated through overdubbing. Others feel that it makes the music authentic. As such, string squeak is easy to hear in:
