This article is about an American actor. For the Washington hardcore indie band, see Kane Hodder (band).

Kane Warren Hodder (Born: April 8, 1955 in Auburn, California, USA[1]) is an American actor and stuntman. Standing 6'3" (approximately 1.92 metres), he is best known for his acting in the Friday the 13th movies as the mass murderer Jason Voorhees. He is also the only actor to portray Jason more than once, in a total of 4 movies. He has also portrayed horror icons Leatherface in the stunts of the third film, and Freddy Kreuger when he pulls Jason' mask to hell in "Jason Goes to Hell."

Although he was offered to reprise the part of Jason Voorhees in the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason, he was rejected by director Ronny Yu and replaced by 6'5½" Canadian stunt man Ken Kirzinger. The switch created controversy amongst fans of the series and has been credited to several rumours, including Kirzinger's ___location in Canada, and his height compared to Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger's portrayer (although Hodder is still taller than Englund).

In the mid 1980's, Hodder was performing a stunt that went awry, leaving him with 2nd degree burns on over 75% of his body. As such, Kane often wears gloves at horror conventions. [citation needed]

He has the word "Kill!" tattooed on the back of his bottom lip.[2]

He is an avid poker player and often plays celebrity tournaments on hollywoodpoker.com.[3]

He spends time working with children in burn centers[4], and despite the roles he often plays, Hodder has often been described as a very friendly man, and loves to meet his fans.

Hodder is to star in the slasher flick Hatchet as main character Victor Crowley, a physically deformed young boy who comes back from the dead to kill the people who invade the swamp in which he lives.[5] This is similar to Jason Voorhees, who died as a young boy in a lake and came back from the dead to kill people who came to Camp Crystal Lake.

Trivia

  • Bremerton, Washington, band Kane Hodder is named after him.
  • One funny story that he likes to tell is that during the filming of Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988), his dressing room was a quarter of a mile down this dirt road. One night, at 2 am, filming had ended, he was still in the Jason costume, and he decided to walk through the woods on a path to his dressing room, as he was walking someone approached him, and asked him if he was with the movie, he didn't reply, because he thought it was a pretty stupid question to ask, here he was standing in full Jason costume. The man asked again, Kane took a little lunge for the guy, and grunted. The guy took off running, tripping and running. The next day director, John Buechler told Kane that the local sheriff was supposed to stop by, but he never showed.[6]
  • In the Special Features on the Jason X DVD, Kane Hodder is seen wearing a jersey emblazoned with the Hatchetman logo, which is synonmous with Horror Rap and the underground Juggalo culture. In fact, Kane is good friends with Detroit based Insane Clown Posse and does the stunt driving in their video for "Another Love Song".[citation needed]

Personal Life

  • Kane is married to Sue. They have two sons, Jace and Reed. Reed plays a part in Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield as Reid.
  • They are currently residing in Auburn, California.
