In biology, the TC number refers to a standard used for classifying membrane transport proteins including ion channels.
It was designed to be analogous to the EC number system for classifying enzymes.
The classification can be found in TCDB (Transporter Classification DataBase)
The upper level of classification and examples of pro:
- 1. Channels/Pores
- 2. Electrochemical Potential-driven transporters. Examples:
- 3. Primary Active Transporters
- 4. Group Translocators
- 5. Transport Electron Carriers
- 8. Accessory Factors Involved in Transport
- 9. Incompletely Characterized Transport Systems
Examples
- Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator -- 3.A.1.202.1
