Mel Mitchell at NFL.com Mel Mitchell (born February 10, 1979 in Rockledge, Florida) is an American football safety for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He attended Western Kentucky University, starting all 36 games and totaling 288 tackles, seven interceptions, 1.5 sacks, 21 passes defensed, and returned 20 kickoffs. He was signed by the New Orleans Saints in 2002.
