The Ehime-maru Incident (Japanese: えひめ丸事件) refers to the event on February 10th, 2001 (Japan time) at 8:45 AM when the Ehime-maru, a practice boat belonging to the Ehime prefectural Washima fishery high school, sank after a collision with "Greenville", a surfaced nuclear submarine belonging to the US Navy, off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. Out of the thirty five crew members onboard, five teachers and four students died. Nine of those rescued were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
