The baritone saxophone, one of the larger members of the saxophone family, was invented by Adolphe Sax. To create the sound a baritone saxophone makes, an extra loop was added near the mouthpiece. This type of saxophone is usually tuned in the key of E-flat. Gerry Mulligan and Pepper Adams were two masters of the baritone sax.
