Zhug, also known as Yemeni hot sauce, is a popular spice mixture from the Middle East. It traditionally contains cumin, cardamom, garlic, and ground hot chili peppers. It is generally very hot.

The mixture originated in Yemen, but has spread throughout the Middle East. Some recipes use parsley and coriander instead of cardamom, and sometimes tomato or lime is added as well. It's used in soups and stews, or spread on pita bread.
