The Emancipation of Mimi (2005) is a concept album and the 14th (10th studio) album for multi-platinum international singing star Mariah Carey, the number one selling female recording artist of the 1990s and one of the biggest selling female artist of all time. Carey's album, which was released by record label Island Records on April 12, 2005, is an album about finding one's self and redefining one's image. The title is taken from a nickname for Carey previously used only by close friends of the superstar. Of the title, Carey says she wanted to "... make it representative of where I'm at as an artist...This is the fun side, the real me, and not the image and the baggage that comes with the whole 'Mariah Carey' thing."

The album includes the hits "It's Like That" featuring Fatman Scoop and Jermaine Dupri, "Say Somethin' featuring Snoop Dogg, and her sixteeneth number one single, "We Belong Together." "Mimi" debuted at #1, her first since Butterfly (1997), with first week sales of over 400,000-the biggest first week sales of her career. The album has since gone on to acheive triple platinum status.

The U.S. version of the album contains 14 tracks. A special limited edition digipak version of the album with a different cover and fold-out poster was also released on the same date.
