Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Collaboration of the month

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Nahallac Silverwinds (talk | contribs) at 13:48, 16 July 2005 ([[Soul Calibur]]). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Each week a Gaming Collaboration of the week will be picked using this page. This is a specific computer or video game-related topic which initially either has no article, has only a basic stub-like page, or is in need of more information. The aim of this project is to improve the quality of Wikipedia's computer and video game articles through widespread cooperative editing. It is our hope that some of these will go on to become featured articles. For a discussion on the correct format of computer and video game articles, please see WikiProject Computer and video games.

The project is also used to fill gaps in Wikipedia, to give users a focus, and to give us all something to be proud of. Any registered user can nominate an article and can vote for any number of the nominated articles. Every Monday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a week to potential contributors.

Previous collaborations can be found at /History.
Removed nominations can be found at /Removed.

Selecting the Next Gaming Collaboration of the week

Voting

Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).

Remember: Any registered user is encouraged to vote.

To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item. The vote will look like this:

  1. Username 08:59, Jul 1 2005 (UTC)

If you want to withdraw your votes, don't remove your name and date completely. Instead, place the strike-through tags <s>...</s> on your username. A withdrawn vote would look like this:

  1. Username 08:59, Jul 1 2005 (UTC)

Any vote that has been striken will not be counted.

Tie-breakers

In case of a tie, voting will be extended for 24 hours. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.

Nominations

New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Please use the provided template.

If the page you are nominating already exists, please add {{GCOTW}} to the top of its talk page. This expands to: Template:GCOTW

If the article is selected as the Gaming Collaboration of the week, please add {{Current-GCOTW}} to the top of the article page. This expands to: Template:Current-GCOTW

Considerations for nominations

  • Giving reasons as to why an article should become the GCOTW may assist others in casting their vote.
  • Can the wider gaming community easily contribute to the article? Or is it something only a small number of people will know about?
  • Is the article a stub or very small? Or would the article fair better in a CVG Peer Review?
  • A good place to look for articles that might be worthy of a nomination is the Computer and video game stubs category.

Pruning

Nominations will be moved to /Removed if they have not received 3 votes after 7 days on the list, 6 votes after 14 days, 9 votes after 21 days, and so on.

The current date and time is 15:53, August 27, 2025

Candidates for next week

  • This game is a widely-praised continuation of the Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario series, and deserves much more attention than it has recieved.

  • Notable fighting series (also my favorite!). Kinda lacking info. on SCII and nothing for SCIII. Thunderbrand July 1, 2005 20:02 (UTC)
    • This article should probably be broken up by indivdual game, but thats just my thought at the moment. K1Bond007 July 1, 2005 22:37 (UTC)
      • You mean have the article as an overview for the series? Thunderbrand July 2, 2005 00:19 (UTC)
        • No.. more like Soul Calibur is for the game Soul Calibur. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can easily see this filling up too fast to the point where it has to be broken up again. I don't exactly understand why Soul Edge which is merged on that page too also has it's own page. ?? K1Bond007 July 2, 2005 04:09 (UTC)
          • Soul Edge refers to a different series.--Zxcvbnm 2 July 2005 18:16 (UTC)
            • Soul Edge is part of the Soul Calibur series, it uses a lot of the same characters, weapons etc. For whatever reason Namco decided to rename it Soul Calibur and has kept it ever since (perhaps due to its popularity as that moniker). K1Bond007 July 2, 2005 22:25 (UTC)
  • We should separate it into two articles, one for the game, and one for the series, and work on those. But which one is Thunderbrand nominating? The series?
Just the game Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast and arcade. Although if we really wanted to, we could add stuff to the list of SC games in the article, but it doesn't need its own article really. Thunderbrand July 6, 2005 14:20 (UTC)

  • President of Nintendo for decades, probably the second-most-important Nintendo employee ever (after Miyamoto), and the article is a mere stub.
    • Second? I'd say first. Miyamoto might have created Mario and etc, but Yamauchi built Nintendo into what it is today. K1Bond007 July 6, 2005 00:50 (UTC)

  • First game on the SNES, pretty much every SNES owner has this game. The article is way too short and could use a lot of work. Jacoplane 7 July 2005 10:39 (UTC)
    • Or is this is the kind of article that would be better suited for the Peer review? Jacoplane 7 July 2005 10:41 (UTC)
      • I personally think your peer review idea would be better for it. --ZeWrestler 7 July 2005 12:16 (UTC)
        • Thinking about it, I think this article could definitely first use a COTW, as it is still a very short article, especially compared to some other mario games. After that it would be excellent to have a look at it in peer review. Jacoplane 09:04, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • The pictures definately need to be further spaced out, as it looks pretty cluttered currently. Probably would do best to have it be just peer reviewed, but I'd be willing to help, if nominated. -mysekurity 06:36, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • This was nominated previously (actually it was the first article to get rejected) for GCOTW, see Dune II @ Removed The game takes a substancial chunk in the Dune video games article. However, it is the pivotal title in Real-time strategy gaming (as far as i can tell it's the first rts game ever, in any case the first westwood studios rts), and it misses it's own article. Dune (Cryo) has an article. Dune 2 is currently a redirect to the hub article. Jacoplane 23:25, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • For the record it was not the first game to get rejected. The removed page only holds approximately 2-3 months worth of removed games as a log. The point of which is to keep games from being renominated within a 2 month period. Dune II appears to be eligible, however. K1Bond007 00:57, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
  • The bit in the Dune (computer game) article is pretty comprehensive. Andre (talk) 01:06, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

  • [This is a game which in my opinion is one of the best games I played in the later 90s. I see some details are explained about the illnesses in the game but it would be good to see a full list and possibly more details on the game itself.]
  • A great concept mixing humour with hospitals, and a very playable game!
  • I really loved this game, and the article needs some serious cleanup, but I'm not sure if it's well-known enough to be a successful GCOTW. I'm withholding my vote until this gets support from several people, to prove that others know about it. Kertrats 01:05, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Falcon games by Spectrum Holobyte played an important part in bringing gaming to personal computers. There is an article about Falcon 4.0, but not about the first Falcon nor Falcon 3.0. That such a prestigious PC game remains without a Wikipedia article is quite simply a disgrace. Adding it would also improve Wikipedia's poor coverage of flight sims.
