User advice

with Theresa knott Hi, I appologize for bringing this up to you, however, I am not quite sure what other avenue to take. After the initial edit war & 3RR discussions, Lifeisunfair, still continues to "stalk" (I do not mean this demeaningly) me and any discussion that seems to relate to my RFA. I agree and understand that I am "fair game" during the RFA, especially if I were an admin. He continues to argue with me over the 3RR, and was replying to other users on my discussion page, if he saw RFA in the edit summary. I feel I have a right to respond to users who comment on my RFA page, and he continually adds his comments to my responses. I feel he has made his points very clear, to me, and with his original vote on my RFA. I should be able to address other users questions, without him commenting on every single issue. I asked him politely, to no longer respond to other users on my user page, and he used this against me in every possible way. I was only trying to be polite, and it is interfering with my ability to do any other actual work on Wiki, or have legititmate discussions with other users, with out the worry that he will come and add in his comments. I am not quite sure if this is a type of trolling, but it is sure not "constructive criticism" he tries to imply. I have not approached or discussed him with any other user, nor have I brought the arguments in any other discussion arena, as to say I am not going around commenting negatively about him or his actions. If I am being too sensitive on this matter, or something else, I would welcome any suggestions or comments. Otherwise, I am not sure what to do. Thank you. Who?¿? 02:54, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Tfd directors

with Radiant!

Hi, I see that you placed Template:Kubrick, Template:Alfred Hitchcock's films, Template:Steven Spielberg's films in the holding cell on 10:06, 18 July 2005. I started to to maintenance on the templates listed there, as I usually skip right to that section, and was accused of not waiting on consensus. I was confused as why this was, and as such The JPS voted oppose on my RFA, just for this matter. The actual discussion was not closed (with code), but was over on the 17th. If I had realized it wasn't "closed", I would have not started the maintenance. I added a "disputed" section on the Holding Cell until it can be resolved, however I'm not really sure what to do about the ever surmounting negative comments on my RFA. Any suggestions? Thanks. Who?¿? 01:41, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

directors TFD

with The JPS

Hi, I'm rather confused on your comment on my RFA. I only started one TFD, and recommended to the community that the 3 templates be combined. After the Tfd was closed, I followed the consensus and started removing the template and categorizing. I am not really sure what you mean otherwise. Thanks. Who?¿? 00:40, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
  • Hi, me again. Here is the link to the TFD holding cell. The directors templates are listed there for categorization. I was just doing maintenance. Who?¿? 00:43, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
    • I see where your concern stems, the actual discussion itself, was not "closed" with code. I skip directly to the holding cell, to see what maintenance needs to be performed. The directors templates were placed there 10:06, 18 July 2005, and the discussion should have been "closed" at that time. I have no bias towards the actual templates, and was merely performing required maintenance. I have since added a "Disputed" section in the holding cell, until the discussion is "closed". As the actual discussion was over on the 17th. If I had known it wasn't "closed", I would have not started maintenance. I replied to your comments on Tfd and on my RFA. Thank you for your understanding. Who?¿? 01:52, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi thanks for the fix on Emily Browning. I couldn't really tell if it was a new entry, a test or vandalism. I usually fix and research such things, but was in a hurry and to be safe rv'd. Thanks Who?¿? 22:56, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, too, for reverting vandalism on my user page. Unfortunately, my page has become a recent target as a result of spotting and cleaning vandalism on other pages. Hall Monitor 23:00, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, that wasn't me this time, Y0u, did that. But I have now added your page to my watchlist, so if it happens in the future, I will try to catch it. Salut. Who?¿? 23:05, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the fix on Emma Watson, I must have saved the article at the same time the user saved and missed some of the vandalism. Thanks again. Who?¿? 22:51, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

with Cleduc

Hi, I noticed you are working on the category structures of this cat, as well as one's mentioned above. At this time, there are not enough articles to warrant having sepearte categories for each of the sub cats you have created. This is the reason the category was named Category:LGBT actors. The TOC breaks up the articles in groups of 200, and this is a standard practice. This may come up in Cfd, and I just wanted to discuss it with you first. Thanks. Who?¿? 22:48, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the fair warning. When are you planning on submitting it? I would like an opportunity to make my case before it is pushed through (as the deletion of all LGBT* subcategories was just six weeks ago, then quickly reversed). Cleduc 03:09, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Well, when I first seen the cat, I was, but I like to do research and find the reasoning. As I seen you had done some cat work, and had some good reasoning, I thought it better to discuss it with you. The only problem I see, is a short time ago there was a dispute over the "Lesbian gay ..." cat, sorry I dont have the precise name or a link, and it ended up being the LGBT it is now. I am on Cfd quite a bit, and just know its common practice not to sub-cat until we have to. I am not necessarily saying we shouldn't, but there are not that many to split up either. It may be brought up on Cfd by someone else, so I wanted to discuss it with you first. I would normally recommend joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories, but we have a ways to go before it is functionally useful. I am glad you replied, but am not sure of the future of the sub-cats, until someone does submit it. We dont have a good forum for categories other than Cfd. You may want to, if you have not already, start a discussion on the LGBT talk page, so there is some reference to your work. Salut Who?¿? 03:16, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your vote of support on my RFA. Who?¿? 19:38, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

The sad fact is that the RFA process prefers people who do not engage controversial or contested topics, leaving these to vandals and trolls. I am glad that some people still do the tedious and unrewarded work like cleaning up categories. Thanks. Pavel Vozenilek 19:49, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Who's RFA thank you with RFA candidates

with Howabout1, Stevey7788

Thank you for your vote of support on my RFA. I would normally support your RFA, but do not personally believe in voting while a user has an open RFA, (note I voted for Essjay before I was on RFA). Keep up the good work, and good luck. Who?¿? 19:56, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

I really think that just because you are a current RfA candidate, you can't vote. RedWolf24 and Essjay supported each other, even though they are BOTH candidates on the RfA. So feel free to oppose (or support) me my nomination, and hopefully you can block me in the future. :) — Stevey7788 (talk) 20:48, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Your blocked for 10 nano-seconds :). It's just a personal preference, it just seems like its cross-promoting, or campaigning for votes. (If you vote for me, then I'll vote for you) type thing. It's only a personal preference, don't really mind if others do it. Thanks for replying. Who?¿? 21:35, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

You don't vote while you have an on-going RfA? Why? Howabout1 Talk to me! 21:31, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

It's just a personal preference, it just seems like its cross-promoting, or campaigning for votes. (If you vote for me, then I'll vote for you) type thing. It's only a personal preference, don't really mind if others do it. I feel that the rest of the community will voice their opinion, but if it came down to it, and I really liked the candidate, I would vote to break a dead-lock. Thanks for replying. Who?¿? 21:37, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Ok. Would it work if you voted in the day after your nomination? I don't mean to sound desperate, just asking. Howabout1 Talk to me! 21:40, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

Hehe.. Yea that'd be acceptable, and I don't think its desperate at all. Watching the RFA can be stressful for sure, especially since you have been through it before. You can count on my vote in the near future. Who?¿? 21:45, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Tony Gatlif

with Dvyost Hi, I see you are creating alternate spellings to Tony Gatlif, and then redirecting them to a non-existant page. It's not a good practice to create several articles, just to redirect them. The wiki search will find close matches. Although redirects are cheap, its good to at least have an article to actually point to. Are you plan on making this article, or are your redirects wrong? Thanks. Who?¿? 05:38, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry, the article's going up in about five minutes; I found a list of alternate spellings on IMDB and wanted to put in the redirects before I forgot them. My own experience with the wiki search engine is that it's not very spell-savvy, which causes me constant problems in finding names transliterated from other languages (the West African history pages are a real nightmare for this), so I'm trying to address this as I go. Sorry for the trouble, and thanks for checking before deleting, --Dvyost 05:50, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
No trouble :) I was more concerned about the red-links than the mutiple redirects, I have made some myself. For a second, it just looked like a bunch of reserved name spaces :). Thanks for replying. Who?¿? 05:52, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Template:Reqimage

with Netoholic

Hi, did you by chance read the discussion on the layout at Template locations discussion. As we were discussing its change, and that users should discuss such changes before making them. Thanks. Who?¿? 08:03, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

why accept big and ugly when there is consensus that it's trash. tweak it later

Please be WP:Civil. The reasoning is that it is still in discussion. Part of that discussion is layout and design. If each person drastically changed each template, then there would be a revert war. As there already was, hence the reason for the discussion. I proposed its change for quite some time before changing the template. I have no problem chaning the template, but drastically changing it to a version that is not on the discussion, just means that it will be edited again later. Will you revert back to your version because you dont like the proposed version that had consensus? This is the only reason I reverted the change. I left a kind note on why I did, along with where the discussion is being held. These kind of things can be avoided with communication, which you did not do before chaning the template. Until we actually close the discussion, it would be nice to actually participate in the discusion before chaning the template. I am reverting it back, not out of spite, but only because it is currently in discussion. Thank you. Who?¿? 08:16, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
User:Lifeisunfair

If you took a moment to read all of the comments and discussion I had left on User talk:Netoholic, you would see I was plainly trying to avoid a revert war. This template is still in discussion, and the reason for the discussion was becuase users were just changing and removing templates without any discussion. I proposed the redesign of the template, as well as proposed going back to the old version Wikipedia_talk:Template_locations#Design_and_layout_issues. He had not even responded to any of the comments I made. I am only attempting to let the community decide. This is not an ownership issue, as I plainly stated. The point is, the template will be edited again to conform to template standarization, and my last RV was to that original proposed version, currently the template does not conform. I do not appreciate the comments he made, and was polite and consise with my reasoning. The fact that I am not an admin should not effect waiting for a consensus and reverting back to his version. I have followed all the policies and am now being punished for it? Please review the history and the links I provided. Thank you Who?¿? 08:42, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

You were trying to avoid a revert war by reverting the template four times in less than seven hours (in violation of the three-revert rule)?
That's why I reverted to Netoholic's design. No matter which of you is correct, you violated a policy (and in a rather hypocritical fashion).
Indeed, the fact that aren't an admin (yet) has no bearing on the issue. Who claimed otherwise?
And FYI, not only did I read your comments on Netoholic's talk page, but that's how I learned of this dispute. —Lifeisunfair 09:18, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
As I commented on 3RR, I was not in violation. The first edit, I just listed as a RV, as it had nothing to do with the template or design, but in order to fix a link. If you do not believe me, you can make a copy and test the version I fixed, and you will see it did not work. It was merely a fix. Also, the version I reverted to last (3rd) was to a version that is actually in proposal, you reverted to a version that is not part of the Template standarisation, my proposed version was different because I had proposed it, I did not make the change drastically. Who?¿? 09:22, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
The first edit was a revert, as is clearly indicated here.
It doesn't matter why you reverted, or to which version you reverted. You made four reverts to a single page in less than seven hours, and that's a violation. —Lifeisunfair 09:29, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

An old CfD

with Kbdank71

Hi, Kbdank71. You closed the CfD on Category:People by race/ethnicity and all subcategories as a no consensus, when the voting was 9d-2k. That seems like a pretty clear consensus to delete — what happened? -Splash 07:11, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
  • Although you may reply directly to Splash, I figured I would make a comment. I think you made the no consensus determination due to the fact that some of us voted delete, with a move to RFC comment. Which made it clear that it might need to be further discussed before we delete the category and start a debate. I was kind of wondering who would bring it to RFC and how. If that wasn't the case, well just <kick> me and move on :) Who?¿? 07:19, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, you recently created Category:American musical performers, I see that you are working with Wikipedia:WikiProject World music, and figured it may have had something to do with one of those templates. We have a current category structure that may better fit some of these templates. Please visit the current CFD on this category, so we may further understand the reasoning, as this may help both our categorisation and your project. Thank you. Who?¿? 06:45, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Who's RfA

with Splash

Hi, thanks for the support. I noticed in the discussion, that you were not an admin. I need to check the admin list more often, thats twice I've made that misconception. I would nominate you, but have personal reservations about not being an admin and nominations, and discussing it beforehand. However, I would gladly vote for your support when the time comes (note, not because of your vote, but due to your contribs that I have seen, as if you didn't know that :) ). I mainly replied to your comment, incase any other users had any reservations about the nomination, I figured since you did vote support, you were voting for me and not the nomination. Thanks again. Who?¿? 06:15, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

You are, of course, welcome to my support vote. I was a little surprised at how upset the replies to my comment were; if I hadn't said it, someone else would have done. It seems from the conversation on Redwolf24's page that you had the same concern yourself. I'm not really sure why I find the multiple nominations off-colour...I suppose I fear it could be used for vote-buying (which it clearly isn't in this case). Thanks for the kind comments about a hypothetical RfA...my first edit, though, was only on 2nd June so I think we can pretty sure I'd not make it on that point alone; I also think I share your other reservations. Good luck, and congratulations in advance! -Splash 06:29, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Hey, hang in there, Redwolf24 and Who. The process lasts a week, and you've collected some heavyweight support so far. As Kbdank71 says, there are times and users where conflict avoidance is impossible, it's just unfortunate it had to be now. Your support is already in the majority, and I note that your opposers are not frequenters of RfA. That leaves all the more usual participants yet to come out and vote. You've got everything to play for. Just steer clear of one or two users for 6 more days...-Splash 05:56, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the note. Yea today was my first official wiki-break day. :o I had some other stuff to do, so figured I would just let everyone have their discussions, I had made my point, and fealt it was pointless to argue further. Thanks for the note, and continued support. Who?¿? 06:01, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Who's discussion page

"As Kbdank71 says, there are times and users where conflict avoidance is impossible, it's just unfortunate it had to be now."
Edit warring is unavoidable? Three-revert rule violations are unavoidable?
"Just steer clear of one or two users for 6 more days..."
...and then resume edit warring? I'd like to think that a potential admin's ordinary participation would be sufficiently upstanding (without the need for special effort to be on his/her best behavior until it's too late for people to change their votes). —Lifeisunfair 06:15, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I appreciate your concern over my current RFA. However, if you have comments you wish to make to users, please do so on their discussion page. I monitor other users pages to revert vandalism, and do not think it polite to constantly hound someone on an issue that is past. If you have further concerns, please take it up with those particular users or at RFC. Thank you. Who?¿? 06:21, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

"Hi, I appreciate your concern over my current RFA. However, if you have comments you wish to make to users, please do so on their discussion page."
I was replying to a message on your talk page. For the sake of context, that's where I posted. (I also left a pointer on Splash's talk page.) This is a wiki, and that generally isn't considered inappropriate.
"I monitor other users pages to revert vandalism,"
Your point being...?
"and do not think it polite to constantly hound someone on an issue that is past."
"Hound"? You accepted a nomination for adminship, and then proceeded to violate a Wikipedia policy. This is highly relevant to the RfA. If you can't stand the heat...
And as you noticed, I was replying to Splash, whom you thanked for raising the issue. Evidently, you only welcome agreement. —Lifeisunfair 06:47, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I indeed notice you were replying to Splash on my talk page. I just ask that you please, reply to other users on their talk page, as our conversation is ours. If you wish to have a conversation with that user, please do so on their talk page, whether or not it pertains to me is irrelevant. Thanks. Who?¿? 06:53, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

I will avoid replying to others on your talk page in the future (now that I'm aware that you object to this), but that isn't all that you wrote. You accused me of "constantly hound[ing]" you, simply because I discussed your misdeeds. No offense, that level of sensitivity to constructive criticism is not an admin-like trait. —Lifeisunfair 07:04, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
I appologize that I was not clear on the reasoning. You asked what my point was about monitoring users pages. If you were not monitoring my discussion page, you would have not known that he had left me a message, although it is Wiki and everything is open, your response was to Splash. The only reasoning, I could see atm, for you to leave it on my page, is to continue to state your concern over my RFA, on my discussion page. I feel you have conveyed that to me quite effectively, and to further to state those concerns on my talk page, in response to another users comments, does not solve anything. So I kindly asked you to voice your concerns to them, as I need not be a party to your conversations, as I feel a personal note I left for Splash and vice/versa, other Wikipedians need not to be involved. If those notes had pertained to some type of vandalism or wrong doing, then I would have welcomed other users involvement. I hope this explains my reasoning. If you wish to discuss other matters with me, that is quite acceptable, but the issue of that particular revert war is past. Thank you. Who?¿? 07:13, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
I always check the "Watch this page" box when posting to a talk page, in case I receive a reply there. I noticed the "RfA" subject on my watchlist, and read the discussion (because it pertains to a topic that interests me). I replied to Splash on your talk page because:
1. I felt that this was the most contextual, least confusing method.
2. I felt that it would be rude to reply to a message addressed to you behind your back.
3. As I said, I didn't realize that you objected to this.
And no, the issue of the revert war is not past. You're a candidate for adminship, so such incidents remain relevant for significantly longer than a day. —Lifeisunfair 07:38, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

I understood your reasoning after you explained it in the last comment, thats why I replied and said "at the moment (atm)". As far as the issue being past, I merely meant, you stating the same thing you stated on the other discussion pages, is not further discussing the issue, I saw no "constructive criticism", just a re-iteration of the topic. I in no way feel that the issue is past with any other Wikipedian that has not yet had a conversation, or even you, as long as its covering new ground. So at this point, I feel our discussion on that topic is past, unless there are other areas you wish to discss that have not already been covered. This is the reason I asked you to respond to the user, rather than my page. It is not necessarily because I completely object to discussions on my user page, it just seemed there was nothing more to discuss with you on that topic, so using my talk page, was in perceived as you hounding me on the subject. Who?¿? 07:47, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Splash's recommendation that you "just steer clear of one or two users for 6 more days" is new ground. Your apparent proclivity for rushing to judgement is another. —Lifeisunfair 08:01, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

Who's comments on RFA

with Redwolf24

Hi, I just wanted to express to you, personally, that I do not mean any disrespect to you for my comments on your RFA. I just personally feel you could use more time working on more parts of Wiki, than just user talk pages. I feel this is very commendable, welcoming users, and discussing things, but administration comes with a bit of experience too, and if you do not participate in larger areas, you won't have the necessary experience in those areas. I although, have seen you on some VFD's and work on some other articles. This is just my opinion, and I hope is not offensive. I also do not think two people should nominate each other, but this is a personal topic, and didn't need mentioning, as there would be a consensus vote anyways. I wish you good luck with your RFA, and hope you heed some of my suggestions. Thank you. Who?¿? 02:20, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Yeah I thought there'd be a backlash about people nominating eachother. But hey, why not. And all I have to say is this, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight tooth and nail for your right to say it." -Voltaire. Happy editing and with respect, Redwolf24 02:23, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding, and if for some reason you don't make it this time, which I doubt you won't (as in you will make it "double negative" :) ); I would be happy to vote for you in the future. Who?¿? 02:26, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
No problem. You should've seen Romania recently, a user wrote something along the lines of FUCK ROMANIA ROMANIA SUCKS ROMANIA WILL DIE and no one reverted it! I saw it after it was listed under speedy deletion >.< Anyways I reverted it and then the anon called me a cumstain. Ah well. And by the way I replied at the RfA, but I want this part to be amplified I hope you've recovered from that motorcycle accident. With respect, Redwolf24 02:33, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Hold up there...

I always thought you were an admin. I was just searching old admin things when I saw that you didnt have a page there. Now that I see that, I notice theres no reference to being an admin, despite the fact that you have over 7000 edits. Please, allow me to nominate you? Redwolf24 02:59, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Yea, I'm getting there, no more pain killers, so can edit clearly now. I saw your note, sorry I wasn't precise, I did a poor mental tally by scrolling through your contribs, it was pretty close, I even thought about changing the note, but honestly thought I put "half" and not "over half" :).
You know, I get that a lot, "I thought you were an admin..". Thank you for the offer, I don't want to hurt yours or Essjay's RFA, so I think it would be better for you both, if you didn't nominate anyone right away. I'll eventually get noticed, when that time comes, I hopefully will have unaminous (sp) support, although I do have some stressful discsussions with some other users, nothing bad. I have a lot of edits, only because I enjoy organizing, I am not a good article creator either, I'm better at "admin" type stuff, but you dont have to be an admin to do it. Thanks for noticing. Who?¿? 03:08, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Err, I guess I took too long to respond. :) Thanks for the RFA. I hope it does not effect yours with other users. Who?¿? 03:12, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Well crap then, you better go turn down my nomination at RfA..

Look, I'd rather have you be an admin than I. Sounds like a load of crap there doesn't it? Nah. You would use the tools MUCH better than I. I can NOT believe you haven't been nominated yet. Here's hoping you make it :) Redwolf24 03:15, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Not really sure how that would look for me or you, I think its probably better for me to accept, as you only intended it in good faith. Thanks again. And never doubt yourself as a candidate, you have worked hard on doing the things you have done so far on Wiki. My comments were merely guidelines, as I did wait for you to have votes, before making them. Thats why I specifically stated that it was not to be taken negatively. You will make a good admin, I just hope you take the time to go through more of the facets of Wiki, before you get thrown into them in a conflict. Thanks again. Who?¿? 03:22, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
well, what're you waiting for, go accept!! Redwolf24 03:20, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

For pronoun's sake, you are a woman right? Essjay referred to you as she so I assume you are a female. I've been stepping over what sex you are by just saying "this user" etc. So which are you, for the sake of pronouns? Redwolf24 03:32, 17 July 2005 (UTC)
Hehe. I am male. The name, as stated on User:Who, is just reference to my Ojibwa given name, and its funny because its ambigous. I guess I missed Essjays reference. I have a page I have to show you later on dealing with these blunder issues :) I placed your banner on my userpage, thanks for asking, but that sort of thing isnt necessarily rude, same with barnstars. Thanks, working on my temp page for the RFA before I post it. Who?¿? 03:37, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Gender benders

Hi, thought I would make a new section, for ease of reading and discussion. Here is the link I told you about. Spivak pronoun, when you get into those gender specific areas, some people, and I stress some, understand these. I often get into that same situation, sometimes I just put a link to their username/userpage in order to work around it :) Hope that helps, or is educational if you already didn't know them. FOX News page protection

with Ilyanep

Hi, this article has been blocked for close to a month. I understand the original need for the protection, due to constant revert warring. The editors should reach a consensus on the talk page, and make approprtiate edits based on the their consensus. Since it has been a month, removing protection, and letting them make their own edits seems like a more practical and fair decision. As it is, I have no interest in the page, just need to change the category to Category:United States television networks. However, I personally do not feel a page should be protected for that long. IMHO Thank you. Who?¿? 23:32, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the message. I'm mostly fine, scratches, bruises, strained muscles... My bike did a lot in keeping me from getting to banged up. And of course, the Jeep didn't stop, just got over long enough to pass a car, about hit me, and then go back in his lane to make a right turn. Ce la vi. I didn't mind the "religious gesture", I understand it's the underlying concern beneath it; and it wasn't specific with who or whom the prayers were to :). Sorry to hear that my biographer was injured. Those disabled veterans on those motorcycles...

I hope that you understand how close you could have came to death, and that it was God's plan that you were not killed. Ergo, had you been killed, that would also have been God's work. I hope that you will take this second chance that you have been given to soften your heart to God's Word. Hi, I responded to your post on WP:ANI, I just wanted to say that I realize blanking the users page, probably was not a good idea, seeings I am not an admin. question about image

with HoneyBee

hi, how do i make an image appear smaller? or maybe can you help me with this article about the highlander series, thanks...

When you use the image tag, you can put "thumb" and then the size, like "150px", for example. You can experiment with the number of pixels to make it bigger or smaller. Here is an example of how it would look.

Also, see: Wikipedia:Extended image syntax, for other ways to use the image tag.

question about deleting an article

hi, thank for your help about the image size. the help page is pretty confusing, and you made it easier. thanks. i just wanna ask whether people can just delete other people's article...because mine is just been deleted... i tried to do according to the rules and regulations like copyright, images, links and all. but if other people can just delete other articles, that would be a waste of time, right? i don't mind if people editing, their contribution would be appreciate it. but if they just going to delete the whole thing, why bother writing an article? i know you've been in this wikipedia thing a long time than me, is there anything i should know about making an article? thanks. your help has been great. HoneyBee 07:41, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, which article was it? I dont think it will show up in your contribs, if it was deleted. But, NO, any normal user cannot delete your article. It either got speedy deleted (admin only), or it got put on votes for deletion. If you give me the name of it, I can look.
Also, part of the reason I welcome people, is some of the links provided, have topics on how to create and edit articles. I should probably go through it and make sure all the links are clear and helpful. I dont mind helping you find any information on article editing/style, I learned mostly by just looking at the code others used, and of course the sandbox. Get back to me with the name of that other article, and we'll go from there. <>Who?¿? 07:48, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Re: the article is Duncan MacLeod -- it seems they are trying to edit the page, but by erasing the most part... if there is a vote for deletion, will the normal user be notify? because english is my second language, i try to be as careful as possible in making an article. thanks.

Hi, I looked at its history, and only one other person edited the article, besdies yourself. If you look here, it seems you accidentally deleted a section when you saved. This happens sometimes, jsut becareful, but you can always go back to a previous saved version by using history.

It hasn't been put on Vfd, or you would have seen a large banner (see this Vfd for example) on the top. And, yes, If it does get put on Vfd, all users have the opportunity to vote.

You mentioned English is not your first language? Have you been to the other language sites of Wikipedia? Not that I don't want you here :) , just want to make sure you know of the several languages that Wiki is in. I'm going to look at the links I provided at the top in the welcome, and get back with you later with some possible good help topics on editing. By the way, you can put brackets , anywhere on wiki, to point to an article on wiki. Duncan MacLeod. <>Who?¿? 08:12, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you from Magic Fan

with MagicFan

Hello Who,
I only just realised you sent me a message... new to all this. Thanks for that. I am having problems with one of my new pages. I put up an article about some magicians I saw in Australia (on TV) and my article is being voted off by all these North Americans who obviously haven't heard of them. None of them are really offering any constructive criticism, just trying to get my article deleted. Quite frustrating given that I looked up all the info and had to read a zillion pages on Wikipedia to try and figure out how to make the article. I have also done quite a few edits to try and appease the masses only to get slagged off again. Could you please have a look for me and make suggestions to change it? It is The Magic Dudes. There are a stack of other Australian magicians I would like to add, but not if I am going to cop all this flack from North of the equator.
Cheers,
MagicFan

Your welcome note and Vfd

Hi, your welcome, for the "welcome note", I enjoy greeting new users, as it makes most feel welcome, and I provide a good list of links and topics, to try to make it easier to navigate Wikipedia.

As for the VFD (Votes for Deletion) on your article. I am sorry that I have to agree with the its deletion, at this time. I made a note, on my vote, explaining the reasoning.

Copy of comment from Vfd:

I reviewed all the info I could find on the subject, unfortunately, it's mostly self-promotion, that I found on the web, links on shopping sites pointing to their "unused" website. If at some time in the future, these guys become syndicated, then it may warrant an article. There is not enough information or content to support an article for a public broadcast channel show. As for the socketpuppets, I kind of feel bad, new user, getting their first article Vfd'd, and asking friends to help. Hard way to learn, but hopefully with more time on Wiki, will learn the rules and develop some good research and editing skills. I remain at delete.

I hope that explains mine, and others standpoint on the issue. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, as I would be glad to help. <>Who?¿? 20:30, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Adding a pic

with Warlock2

Hey again, I was thinking of using this pic of Lazlo on the Camp Lazlo article. Can you do it for me, please? Use this one instead of that other pic with the description "Lazlo from Camp Lazlo" in it.

Hi, I added the image you requested. Normally, it is not a good idea to use images from other websites, unless it is clear on the copyright of the image. This one is a screenshot, so is fair use. If you wish to upload images and use them yourself, on the left side of the screen, there is an upload link. It contains all the information you need to upload, use the image tag, and add the appropriate copyright tags. Here is what the code looks like for that image.

Also, it is helpful for you to sign your comments on talk pages. You can do so by using ~~~ which would sign your name, or ~~~~, which would put your name and timestamp, like the one at the end of my comments.

(Except for an (accidental?) talk-page blanking, I don't see any recent vandalism here. Your polite warning for the blanking should do for now.)

Thats ok by me, right now. I kind of feel bad, as I was the one that requested the page be unblocked today, as I fealt users may want to add to it. Of course, the same day, same user blanks the talk page. I just hope it doesnt become a revert war again, its sad to have to block pages, or users for that matter. Thanks. <>Who?¿? 03:52, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Re: anon-blanking

I don't think you should feel bad about that. It had been locked for a very long time, and this is a wiki after all. I don't know the whole story on that article, but from what I could see on the talkpage-history, someone is blanking it now and then or something, but also making edits to the article over which there has been disputes. And people are getting upset, which is of course unfortunate. But I don't think locking or range-blocking is the way to go here. A sometimes blanked Aslhley-twins talkpage isn't the end of the world, I must say, and restoring it takes a lot less work than I sense people there are spending getting upset over it. Not that talk-page blanking should be excused, but sometimes just silently reverting and moving on is the prefered thing to do, and really quite a small price to pay for having a wiki.

But if this gets much more ugly and frequent blanking/vandalism/revert-waring from an IP-range makes the article really suffer, a WP:RFC or something like that could be in order. But not now, IMO. Shanes 04:20, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Honestly, I actually loathe the idea of range blocking, the idea that it may and will block legitimate users from accessing Wiki, bothers me. I have no personal interest in the article, I have worked on it and made proposals for its change, but not necessarily invested in it. I do think its silly to blank a page, continously, and a talk page really isn't worth a war. It was really my first chance to actually , attempt ;) to make a difference by reporting constant vandalism, I just hope that my note, rather than the test4 note, convinces them to stop. Thanks for replying. <>Who?¿? 04:26, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Olsen twins

I saw that the anon blanked the page again (clearly some people won't take a hint, even when applied with a clue-by-four). So the rest of the range they were using (216.76.221.0/24 and 216.76.218.0/24) has been included.
If you didn't really want to archive the Talk: page (it was only 54K or so, not very large), let me know and I'll move it back (you can't, the replacement now has edit history). Noel (talk) 17:43, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Yea, I really didn't want it archived, still had things in discussion, was just hoping it would actually do some good, seeing this some of the discussion was about him. If you don't mind, you can move it back, now that you have the rest of his ip range blocked. Thanks. Who?¿? 20:49, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

OK, will do. Noel (talk) 20:53, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Moving pages

with Category

Hi, please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions before moving any more pages. The pages you are moving have been established for some time. In addition, you are creating them with all caps and special characters in the name. This is not a standard practice, and should be avoided in general. Thank you. <>Who?¿? 13:43, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, those names are registered trademarks. Category 13:52, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

I understand that, and it is stated on the article. It is just better to keep special characters (©) and all capital titles from title names, as it makes searching and using the article easier. The articles were actually created some time ago, and have been edited many times. Moving pages can be a big deal, sometimes it is better to mention it on the talk page or list it on Wikipedia:Requested moves if you feel it must be renamed/moved. Thanks for your contributions though. <>Who?¿? 13:58, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Template talk:Lived

with Docu

you just listed it there stating nothing links to it !

I did not mean it in that manner, I meant no articles link to it, as to say it's not in use. To list to identical templates on the talk page, even though one is a redirect, is pointless. Users may end up using Template:Lifespan instead of Template:Lifetime. Rather than have them use a template that redirects to another template, I removed it from the documentation. Even if Template:Lifespan does not get deleted, it really shouldn't be listed as usage if it only redirects to the one listed next to it. <>Who?¿? 06:53, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

I generally agree with your reasoning (e.g. suggest to use disambig, but not dab which redirects), but as it's a usage with "subst:", it doesn't matter. Obviously, if it ends up being deleted, we can remove it. -- User:Docu

I had already made a note on the talk page, before I realized you replied. I don't think it will get deleted, as i forgot about Redirects are cheap. Maybe using the example you have above, instead of suggesting use of both, would be more appropriate. Thanks. <>Who?¿? 07:06, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

  • :I have to agree with Gene; that statement was dense. A little more background below. --Alexwcovington (talk) 05:00, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Although you recanted your statement, I still had time to read it. As I stated on the CFD, I have not been disruptive, rude or demeaning to anyone on Wiki. My comment was just to lighten the mood on Cfd, as it can be a tedious process when working with so many categorization schemes. It had nothing to do with my vote in general, and I usually always comment on my vote when I feel there is more to be said about the discussion. I realize that it may seem personal to some people, especially if you have any invested interest in the category in question, if I had meant it to be a sly comment, I would have not included the ( ;) ) smiley. I did not mean for the vote to not be taken seriously as per the coment I made. I am now going to read the message you left me earlier and go back through your proposals, I just wanted to get this part over with first. Thank you. <>Who?¿? 06:06, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Please forgive my original comment. I had yet to make a decision how to proceed under the circumstances, and my first instincts were to get defensive. --Alexwcovington (talk) 06:08, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I do not personally hold anything against you for the comment, and understand that it was a defensive gesture, as was the reasoning for its removal. I hope that I did not offend you further by responding to it.

As for the current Cfd, I just added a comment about the reasoning behind my decision. It was more on keeping a standard structure in the current schema of Category:Cities in the United States. The "Major" part is ambiguous, and could lead people to add/remove cities to it in the future, for what the y "feel" is major. I have no objection to the design of the template, and feel it does a good job at dividing the sections. Just don't feel that a sub-cat is warranted at this time, for just large and small cities. I am not an expert, just trying to keep a uniform and disambiguous category structure.

Thank you for your responses and understanding. <>Who?¿? 06:26, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

I can understand your comment at CFD, but I'd raise issue with the idea that there is no differentiation between city sizes. Most other states also have Towns in [state] and Villages in [state]. North Dakota, however, does not have this luxury, so this is an attempt to get back the same type of differentiation that other states have. --Alexwcovington (talk) 06:28, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Ahh, I did miss seeing that in Category:Cities in the United States, I had to go back and look, and I do recall a previous Cfr on villages. I see your reasoning in the subdivisions. I would suggest renaming it "Large cities" and will adjust my comments on the Cfr. This way it will accomplish the same thing and get rid of the disambiguaty. <>Who?¿? 06:33, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Large cities in North Dakota

I wouldn't mind a rename for the category, as long as something similar can be found acceptable. --Alexwcovington (talk) 06:54, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

  • (note, user added then removed question, probably accidentally)

In the Camp Lazlo series, is the voice of Raj suppose to be Rob Paulsen or Jeff Bennett? Thanks.

Hi, I see you were about to leave me a message, but reverted it. I am not quite sure about Camp Lazlo, but you can find out more at Cartoon Network Camp Lazlo Hope that helps. <>Who?¿? 04:52, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Category:People by surname

with Kbdank71

Hi again. I removed the Cfr I placed on Category:Sobieski, as it seemed the consensus was to keep it, as a royalty family, part of one of my original exceptions. I am not sure what to do about Category:Howard, as there was comments on it being nobility and not royality, and no further comments on keep or delete. Any suggestions? Thanks <>Who?¿? 23:46, 9 July 2005 (UTC)
  • You know, I remembered that this morning. I don't have a problem with leaving Sobieski and Howard, since there were reservations on deleting them. --Kbdank71 16:16, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
    • k, I removed the Cfr on Howard. Thanks again. <>Who?¿? 23:57, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

You're quite welcome; seems he's come back already as Bank of Wikipedia Employee9, but he was only able to get one edit through. I hesitated at reverting your talk page, but figured it best to do so considering its misleading content. (I see you keep a log of all convos anyway; that's a good idea.) Cinema → Film actors

with RedWolf on CanisRufus talk

  • Hi, thanks for the bot assistance. Is there anyway to have CanisRufus keep the alphabetic name sorting portion.. ie , or do we have to re-edit all of them. Oh, I just seen you did that particular one. Thanks for the help again. <>Who?¿? 8 July 2005 17:42 (UTC)
Yea, I noticed this myself after monitoring the bots changes. There seems to be a bug in the bot code where it doesn't keep the category sort key. I have manually applied the sort key to all the articles the bot changed. I have stopped the bot from making further changes and looks like another bot will need to continue this task due to a technical issue in trying to fix the problem. RedWolf July 8, 2005 18:32 (UTC)
I appreciate the earlier assistance though, some is better than none ;). <>Who?¿? 9 July 2005 06:41 (UTC)

  • Could you supply proper diffs for your 3RR report? You've instead provided links to four versions of the article, which isn't very helpful. To provide a diff, go into the page history, select the two versions between which the reversion was made, compare them, and record the URL (as, for example: 09:50, 7 July 2005). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 7 July 2005 20:46 (UTC)
Sorry about that, doing it now. Thanks. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 20:50 (UTC)
Done. Thanks for the heads up, rather than ignoring the malformed request. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 20:58 (UTC)

  • Hey, I wonder, could you help me with picture Image:Within Temptation.jpg with is clearly copyrighted. I just tagget it to be copyvio, but then I realized that this may not be the right tag fot this picture. You have here so much tags that it's pain to try find property tag. :) Linnea 7 July 2005 11:40 (UTC)
  • Hi, not a problem, for copyrighted images, you will find them at copyright violations. I have updated the tag for you, you were close, instead of copyvio, for images you would use imagevio. Then you add a note to the users talk page, directions for this are listed on the copyright page I mentioned above. Hope that is helpful. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 11:52 (UTC)

Editing users talk pages

Hi again. Its not really appropriate to remove content from other users talk pages. If you wish to clear yours, that is your decision. You are more than welcome to add a discussion, or to edit typo's in your previous discussions, as long as you do not remove it. Thanks. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 05:17 (UTC)
