Project Plan

Activities

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

SHEPEDIA
As a result of having a successful shepedia project last year we have decided to push this project a bit higher this year because some ladies or women saw our broadcast on various social media and the called to find out whather there is going to be another capacity building and training session/exercise.
So this we are looking forward in doing much edits and also grow the community for ladies editors by increasing the number of females contributors who edit on wikipedia and it's sister project.
This year our partnerships with various organized bodies remains the same, also we are welcoming new partnership within the space of the project that will enable us have more ladies trained and make a difference using wiki tools for education and many more.
Target: Females (we would involve male if they are interested in other to avoid biases).
Duration: January-March.
PIDGIN LANGUAGE
On wikipedia language currently there are 304 Languages found on the project but unfortunately we don’t have Pidgin Language (ISO 639-3) which largely spoken by the mass majority in various community West Africa & Global Community. The Pidgin language in some communities it is their first language but in other communities it is their second language.
BBC and other news agencies have started pidgin language as one of their broadcast services eg. BBC Pidgin and they are growing in the number of subscribers or audience who watch, read and listen to news in pidgin and other related content. As a wikipedian I and my team have decided to close the gap in one of the languages which is not found on the language project,we as a team have decided to introduce the pidgin language to the list of languages.
Because the project is new (if a volunteer hasn't started) we would start this project on pilot bases, thus by speaking pidgin language and making various edits in english in our first meetup session, as a result of the outcome it would lead us to make better decision on creating articles in pidgin in the future.
Examples of some pidgin laguage
  • Chale chaw menez dey there – My frriend are there a lot of people there.
  • You dey bab - Do you understand.
  • You Sabi - You know or understand.
  • Make you shun what you dey sake of ebi dangerous- You have to stop whatever you are doing because it is dangerous.
  • Chale/Padi - friend.
The example given is used based on the context one is speaking the language, which also applies to every other languages.

OPEN FESTIVAL
The team had an amazing and exciting moments during open festival project. The team and I have decided to go a bit further this year by telling short stories through videos.
