Marlene Rivier

Marlene Rivier is a politician and trade unionist in Ontario, Canada. She has campaigned for the Canadian House of Commons as a candidate of the New Democratic Party of Canada, and for the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a candidate of the New Democratic Party of Ontario.

Rivier has a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, and has been a member of hte College of Psychologists of Ontario since the early 1980s. She is a teacher and health care worker. As of 2004, she is part of the Forensics Program at the Royal Ottawa Hospital as teaches at St. Paul's University.

Rivier is the president of OPSEU Local 479, and has been a prominent critic of "private-public partnerships" in health-care delivery. She has criticized both the Ernie Eves and Dalton McGuinty governments for permiting such arrangements, which she describes as "a seductive means of hiding government debt".

She campaigned for the Ontario legislature in the 2003 provincial election, and finished third in Ottawa West—Nepean with 4.099 votes (8.34%). The winner was Jim Watson of the Ontario Liberal Party.

Rivier also contested Ottawa West—Nepean in the 2004 federal election, and again finished third with 7,449 votes (12.98%). The winner was Marlene Catterall of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Rivier has been nominated to contest Ottawa West—Nepean for the NDP again in the next federal election.
