SproutCore is an open source javascripting framework that aims to develop web applications that are beyond the capability of contemporary websites and have the feel of desktop applications. Apple announced at the 2008 WWDC that this would be the basis of their push into creating cross-platform applications, tying in with their Cocoa API and it is likely to be directly competing with Adobe's Flash player and Microsoft's Silverlight. Apple built much of their MobileMe service using sproutcore.
