Movement Strategy/Initiatives/Global Approach for Local Skill Development

This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Abbad (WMF) (talk | contribs) at 15:27, 15 November 2021 (+clarification). It may differ significantly from the current version.

This initiative was one of the priorities (from the initiative cluster C) selected for global implementation during the Movement Strategy Transition events. It was also widely-prioritized by local communities and affiliates, especially emerging ones.

Content

Content from the recommendation:

Create a systematic, global approach to skill development for local communities, their people, and their organizations. This requires us to:

  • Establish a methodology that maps assets and needs and generates aggregated data for deploying skills development initiatives based on real needs.
  • Establish a service that facilitates connecting/matching peers across the Movement for teaching and learning skills (e.g. peer-learning, networking, and pooling of information from partners and allies).
  • Encourage a diversity of methods, including training, mentoring, consulting, online learning, peer-to-peer support, and events.
  • Create incentives for skill development (online and offline) through the recognition of skills (e.g. through open badges).

Participate

You may receive support to lead or participate in the implementation of this recommendation by requesting a Movement Strategy Implementation Grant in one of the three suggested skill development tracks (these are not obligatory and grants can be requested on any topic):

  1. Needs Assessment for Skills Development: Includes an example that involves a needs assessment research to understand the learning profiles and needs of community members. This project is to help communities identify and define the main skills that they need.
  2. Translation of a Learning Resource: This idea is for communities ready to find and outline a specific skill development activity. This will involve taking current tools and delivering them for their community.
  3. Creating a New Learning Resource or Activity: An idea for creating learning tools to increase the management skills of affiliates.
