There is a sizable collection of minor characters in Spongebob who have either appeared in multiple Spongebob Squarepants episodes, or have played a significant role in a few episodes.

Regular minor characters

  • Larry Lobster - A very strong lobster. Regularly goes to Bikini Bottom's beach, Goo Lagoon and works as a lifeguard there. He is basically congenial, but SpongeBob seems to suspect him of deliberately stealing his time with Sandy. Next to her, Larry is the second strongest critter in Bikini Bottom.
  • Pearl Krabs - The teenage whale daughter of Mr. Krabs. She is popular at school, can be mean in a typical high-schooler way, and can cry very hard. She is often embarrassed by her father's lack of cool or "coral" (the Bikini Bottom teenagers' way of saying "cool"), depending upon the in-word of the week.
  • Poppy Puff - Teaches students (including SpongeBob) at Mrs. Puff's Boating School. She often gets hurt by SpongeBob's bad driving, and Mr. Krabs is in love with her. Her erratic behavior comes from two fears: the first, being stuck teaching SpongeBob, an annoyingly painful, and yet perfect, student; the other is letting loose a monster like SpongeBob who could destroy Bikini Bottom with his awful driving skills. Being a pufferfish, she often inflates herself when something bad happens, such as when SpongeBob crashes during boating lessons. Mary Jo Catlett, better known for her role as Pearl the maid on Diff'rent Strokes, provides Mrs. Puff's voice.
  • Squilliam Fancyson - A squid that went to Squidward's band class, and always puts Squidward down. He is a very wealthy, snooty, unibrow-endowed rival of Squidward who looks down his bulbous nose at his old schoolchum for being just a lowly cashier in a greasy spoon. When Squilliam takes his band to the "Bubble Bowl", he comments that he is living Squirdward's dream. Squidward is painfully jealous and schemes constantly to show Squilliam he isn't a loser. He would later return in "Squilliam Returns" and think that Squidward was the owner of a five-star restaraunt.
  • The Flying Dutchman - A green ghost named after the famous ghost ship of the same name. He lives in a giant ship that floats in the "sky" (underwater).
  • Mr. and Mrs. SquarePants - SpongeBob's parents. Made their debut in "Home Sweet Pineapple", where they came to pick up SpongeBob after nematodes ruined his pineapple house. They later appeared in "Culture Shock" as they watched their son clean up his act in more ways than one, and in "No Free Rides", where Mr. Squarepants kissed Mrs. Puff's hand and gave his son a boatmobile for passing his driver's test.
  • Patchy the Pirate and Polly the Parrot - Presenters of the SpongeBob specials, Patchy also serves as President of the SpongeBob Fan Club. Tom Kenny, provider of SpongeBob's distinctive voice, plays Patchy, and Steven Hillenburg voices Potty.

Others

  • Atomic Flounder - A retired villain who can blast hot radioactive beams from his mouth. He was in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II".
  • Bubble Bass - An obese, geeky fish who undermines SpongeBob's confidence in "Pickles" and first sits on, then nearly eats Plankton, mistaking him for a jellybean in 'F.U.N.'.
  • Bubble Buddy - A sentient soap bubble created by SpongeBob when he felt alone. Appeared in "Bubble Buddy". In the video game Battle for Bikini Bottom, he teaches SpongeBob Bubble Moves.
  • Dirty Bubble - A giant bubble who is one of MermaidMan and Barnacle Boy's arch enemies. In "MermaidMan and Barnicle Boy II", Charles Nelson Riley provided his voice.
  • DoodleBob - A rude, crude, arrogant drawing of SpongeBob that came to life in "Frankendoodle" — the evil variation of SpongeBob SquarePants. He appeared in the episode about the "magic pencil", when he tried to erase everything in town. Evil SpongeBob tried erasing SpongeBob when the later was trying to replicate himself in a decent, constructive way. SpongeBob erased him and missed some parts that redrew the evil one. Then, SpongeBob erased the evil pencil-drawn variant. Meanwhile, the "magic pencil" was tossed back to the boat it came from.
  • Evelyn - A blue fish with white hair whose name was revealed in "Band Geeks".
  • Shelly - Spongebob's Pet Scallop NOT the one From Rock-a-Bye Bilave. Spongebob keeps in a Bird Cage in his Bedroom. It's name was revealed in Spongebob: The Complete 1st Season.
  • Flatts the Flounder - A student in SpongeBob's boating school class who wants to "kick SpongeBob's butt". Voiced by Thomas F. Wilson of Back to the Future fame.
  • Frank - He's a orange fish who's name is revealed in "Dying For Pie". That is also the name of the owner of the Prank Shop who gives Spongebob the Invisible Spray.
  • Fred - A dark-green fish who says "MY LEG!" and "MY EYYYYYYYYYYYYEESSSSSSS!".
  • Grandma SquarePants - SpongeBob's grandma (voiced by Marion Ross). She made her debut (and only appearence) in "Grandma's Kisses" and treats SpongeBob like a baby, which he resents because other people make fun of him for it.
  • The Hash Slinging Slasher - A monster made up by Squidward when he was on the night shift with Spongebob to scare him. He is revealed later in the episode as a teenager looking for a job at the Krusty Krab.
  • Jerry- A realistic-looking snail pulled out of Spongebob's pocket in "Dumped."
  • Jimmy
  • King Neptune - He is the god of the sea (played by Jeffrey Tambor in the movie. John O'Hurley voices him in the episode "Neptune's Spatula".)
  • Lary- A snail adopted by Spongebob to replace Gary in "Dumped"; is very rude and selfish and has big eyebrows.
  • Mama Krabs - Mr. Krabs' old mother. The episodes that have featured her have shown her to be very strict and no-nonsense. In "Sailor Mouth," she made Mr. Krabs, SpongeBob, and Patrick repaint her pink anchor home as punishment for foul language, and in "Mid-Life Crustacean," she grounded her son for the night after he stole her bloomers in a "panty raid".
  • Man Ray - Another one of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's enemies, he changed his ways in the third MM & BB episode, but went back to being evil in the fifth MM & BB episode. Lord Of The Rings movie veteran John Rhys-Davies voices Man Ray.
  • Monroe- Young fish who is lifted up by Mr. Krabs in an episode. Has a hat with a propeller on it.
  • Mr. Doodles - Mr. Krab's pet worm.
  • No name- a blue jellyfish that was later renamed "Friend."
  • Officer Nancy - A fish at the police
  • Old Man Jenkins - Usually an older fish (although his appearance varies between some episodes) and is usually randomly introduced by some character, especially by saying, "It's Old Man Jenkins!". He is a prominently seen character in the episode The Sponge Who Can Fly.
  • Pattar - Patrick of the past, was seen in "SpongeBob B.C. (Before Comedy)".
  • Pattron - Patrick of the future, he was seen in 'SB-129'.
  • Rex - A worm adopted by Spongebob to replace Gary in "Dumped"; ends up ditching Spongebob in less than 10 seconds when he appears.

  • Nosferatu - The classic vampire that had been flicking the lights on and off at the Krusty Krab, which was attributed to the Hash Slinging Hasher.
  • Bikini Bottom Judge the one who judged the Krabs and Plankton case. Seen in Krabs vs Plankton
