  • Red means the team was eliminated.
  • Blue means the team was the last to arrive at a pit stop in a non-elimination leg of the race.
  • Green means the team won the Fast Forward clue.
  • * Reichen & Chip had arrived 2nd, but they chose to drive to the pit stop and therefore received a 35 minute penalty.

Trivia

General

  • The final 2 teams raced through 4 continents, 24 cities, 9 countries, and traveled 44,000 miles.
  • On the final leg, David and Jeff made a mistake in flying into Sydney to get flights to Hawaii. There were none until the next day, which put them so far behind that they did not reach the Finish Line.
  • At the time the show was filmed and broadcast, gay marriage was not legal anywhere in the United States. Reichen and Chip were never legally married under U.S. law; CBS chose not to contest their description of themselves despite the inaccuracy.
  • After the race, Reichen & Chip "divorced" but still remained friends. After winning Reichen started a career in modelling, selling his own semi-nude anual calendar.
  • A record seven Fast Forwards were handed out (including the first five of the entire race), only one of which was sought by more than one team.

Pre-Race

  • Redundant names were a theme in this edition of the Race. There were 3 Steves, 2 Jons, a David and a Dave, and a Sheree and a Jaree.
  • The finale, originally planned to air as one two-hour episode, aired over two weeks because of power outages affecting the large areas in Eastern United States.

In-Race

  • This season marks the first time a reference was made to a previous season, when during Leg 1 Chris shouted to Amanda, "Come on, Flo!"
  • Leg 4 of Season 4 marked the first time in the history of The Amazing Race that a roadblock occurred before a detour.
  • Reichen and Chip were not planning on taking the Fast Forward task in the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary in Leg 9. However, since they had unintentionally traveled in that direction, they decided to complete the route. Jon and Kelly were trying for the green pass (color of the Fast Forward indicator) but had to go back to complete the Detour and the Roadblock, barely beating out Chuck and Millie for a final four berth.

Post-Race

  • This season marked the first time three teams tied up in a single ranking at the pitstop (first place at Leg 1 of the race in Italy).
  • Although they are the third team overall not to finish a leg in first place immediately following the Fast Forward, the NFL Wives are the first team to use it and finish neither first nor last. They finished in fourth.
  • At six (aired), Tian holds the record for most Roadblock tasks performed by a contestant whose teammate did not perform any.
  • Jon and Kelly held the highest position, up to that point, for a team that hadn't used the Fast Forward.
