Summary
Nexopia.com (formerly EnterNexus.com) is an Edmonton-based website, designed primarily for younger people, that allows its users to design their own profiles with pictures and interact with each other via messages and forums. It also has a "Rate Your Picture" style feature that is quite popular. The site has become quite popular in western Canada, and users from all around the world can now be found on the site but over 97% of its users are Canadian. With claims of almost 1,000,000 member accounts, it's believed to be one of the largest sites of its kind in Canada. However, it's impossible to know if each account corresponds to an individual person, and there is no standardised system for auditing claims of membership levels of different online communities. Often, a person will create multiple accounts, to take on different personas. Often, a web site can't tell if two accounts are of the same person, or two people sharing a computer.
The site is advertising based and contains a number of flash banners and other animated banners but no pop-ups. Plus subscribers have a dedicated server and numerous extra features such as custom profile skins, recent visitors list, etc.
Recently, Nexopia.com has come under attack from various media outlets, which criticize the site for having a vast amount of sexually suggestive content found in user profiles and forums, as well as the potential for attracting pedophiles. However, administrators for the site have countered that parents ought to be responsible for their own child's safety, and have recently posted an advice section on its main page, giving safety tips to the site's users. Also no nudity is allowed in any of the forums or profiles, all profile pictures are checked before being allowed on.
Nexopia hosts a marketplace forum in which users can exchange goods and services. Nexopia is not responsible for any fraud on this forum.
