Jhelum is a town in the North of the Punjab Province in Pakistan. Jhelum lies on the banks of the Jhelum River. The Grand Trunk Road passes through the city. The town has a very long history: Alexander the Great founded a city Alexandria Boucephalous, named after his horse Bucephalus, who died in a famous battle here, known by Greeks as the Battle of the Hydaspes.

Rohtas Fort also known as Qila Rohtas is situated near Jhelum City.

Before the construction of the Mangla Dam on the Jhelum river, Jhelum was regularly flooded during Monsoons. But after its construction, there was only one major flooding.
