LabChart® (formerly known as Chart™) is a software application for ADInstruments PowerLab data acquisition system. LabChart is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. It offers the functionality of a traditional multi-channel chart recorder, XY plotter, polygraph and digital voltmeter. Traditional chart recorders record analog inputs (such as a pulse, blood pressure or temperature) onto paper. LabChart software records analog data onto computer hard disks. The software interface resembles the output of a paper chart recorder, with up to 16 recording channels and 32 analysis channels.

The software includes control of hardware settings, real-time and offline analysis without the loss of raw data, procedure automation via editable macros, and multiple block samplings for the recording and settings of different signals within one file [1].

Modules

LabChart Modules are large specialised add-ons that provide data acquisition and analysis features for specific applications. Examples of research articles citing their modules includes:

  • Blood Pressure: automatic detection and analysis of cardiovascular parameters from arterial or ventricular pressure signals [2]
  • Cardiac Output: calculations of cardiac output from thermodilution curve. [3]
  • DMT Normalization: pre-experiment calculation and setting of optimal pretension on isolated vessel with Danish Myo Technology wire myographs [4]
  • Dose Response: calculation of dose response type data [5]
  • ECG: detect and report PQRST onset, amplitude and interval times [6]
  • HRV: analysis and display of variation in heartbeat intervals from ECG recordings [7][8].
  • Spike Histogram: discriminates and analyses extracellular neural spike activity with the generation of graphs including peristimulus time histogram[9]
  • Video Capture: synchronizes data acquisition with video recording of a subject [10].
