Danta was a former Indian princely state ruled primarily by the Hindu Parmar dynasty, before it acceded to the Union of India on 6 November 1948. It is presently ruled by HH Maharana Sri Mahipendra Singh, born 17 December 1948 in Bombay, married 6 March 1975 in Jaipur to HH Maharani Chandra Kumari of Karauli.
It is located in Banaskantha, the northern most district of Gujarat and is about 150 km north of Ahmedabad. Banaskantha is the third largest district in Gujarat with an area of 10757 sq/km.
Religion
The majority of residents are Hindu but there are also a large Muslim population and smaller numbers of Christians and Jains. Danta was not spared in the religious riots of 2002 and a number of incidents were reported in Danta and in the surrounding areas.
