Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Uniwersytet im Mikołaja Kopernika (UMK) w Toruniu) is one of the most respected universities in Poland. Named after Nicolaus Copernicus, Polish astronomer born in Toruń.

History

Founded in 1945 on the basis of the Toruń Scientific Society, Stefan Batory University in Wilno and Jan Kazimierz University in Lwów. In 2003 Medical academy of Bydgoszcz joined the university as Collegium Medicum.
