Stub categories...

Hi. I notice you've created some stub types for Scotland, which naturally I approve of, for good nationalistic reasons. However, note that there's an approval process for doing so at WP:WSS/P; one is supposed to get a consensus for the naming, categorisation logic, and numerical feasibility for new stub types, and wait seven days before creation. Alai 04:40, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. I wasn't aware of these. I note that Catalonia, and Ireland (all of it) have their own "...-related stubs", and also that there are Scottish bio stubs too. I will try and put it through the proper channels, but please appreciate this is the first time I've done it. I certainly think it is worthwhile, because I produce a lot of articles on Scotland (being from there) which don't fit elsewhere, and the UK category is pretty large. --MacRusgail 16:06, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
I agree, it seems broadly sensible, and I was actually a little surprised it didn't already exist. There's a rough threshold of 60 articles for the creation of a stub category, so it'd be handy to check if it's in that ballpark. Otherwise, I don't see any problems with it, other than the procedural nicety of the formal proposal and waiting period. Alai 16:15, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Have you seen the discussion at Categories for deletion: Categories_for_deletion#Category:Scotland_stubs_to_Category:Scotland-related_stubs?

I have just listed one of your new articles at Wikipedia:Scottish Wikipedians' notice board, at the sub-page: Wikipedia:Scottish Wikipedians' notice board/New articles. It would be great if you could list all the new articles that you create!--Mais oui! 22:24, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I had a short look at the CfD thing. Apparently "Scotland related stubs" seems to be the normal form. I didn't know that there was a Scottish wikipedians board, but I will try and list all the ones of Scottish interest there at least, if not the other ones... --MacRusgail 15:47, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
It may currently be the prevalent one, but the convention is that new ones simply be "X stubs", and that old ones be switched over as opportunity, volunteer grunt-work, and possible imminent unleashing of fierce null-edit 'bots permit. Alai 22:55, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Linking to categories

If you put a colon at the start of the link, it creates it as a link to the category, rather than including the article in the category [[:Category:British people stubs]] produces Category:British people stubs. If fixed the links on SWNB. --GraemeL (talk) 17:55, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I got round it using the "no wiki" feature. Anyway, I've just been sending lots of the Brit bio stubs to the Scot section... --MacRusgail 17:57, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

My proposal for Welsh bio stub

60 + candidates for {{Wales-bio-stub}} and Category:Welsh people stubs). There are plenty more at Category:Welsh people by occupation in the individual subcategories. I have tried to find more Welsh people, to move from the British bio stubs, but in many cases, there simply is not enough information in them.

Eurig Wyn, Edward Llwyd, Llyr Llediaith, Lord Lieutenant of Anglesey, Lord Lieutenant of Brecknockshire, Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Lord Lieutenant of Haverfordwest, Lord Lieutenant of Merionethshire, Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan, Lord Lieutenant of Monmouthshire, Lord Lieutenant of Powys, Morgan Llwyd, William Herbert, 18th Earl of Pembroke, Hugh Owen, Jeremy Bowen, J.G. Parry-Thomas, Bishop of St Asaph, Raymond Williams, Winefride, Sian Williams, Simon Weston, Watkin Williams-Wynn, Tim Vincent, Henry Vaughan, Teilo, John Thomas (harpist) , Lewis Valentine, Sara Sugarman, Thomas Stephens, John Savage (politician), Mike Ruddock, Joan Ruddock, Clive Rowlands, Rob Hartill, Henry Richard, Thomas Rees (Unitarian minister) , Elmer Rees, Earl of Powis, Beau Nash, Nennius, Richard Marquand, Owen Jones (antiquary), Llywelyn Bren, Owain Lawgoch, Griffith Jones (Llanddowror), Ernest Jones, George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffreys, Morfydd Llwyn Owen, Carwyn James, Evan James, Illtud, Iestyn ab Gwrgant, James James, Anarawd ap Rhodri Telsa Gwynne, William John Gruffydd, Thomas Gee, Johnny Owen (boxer), Tommy Farr, Robert Fitz-Stephen, Christmas Evans, Emrys ap Iwan, David Davies (clergyman), John Davies (Mallwyd)

Very nice job! Alai 22:55, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I would have liked to have been able to use Google etc to get it done quicker though. A lot of people in the British stubs have Welsh looking names, but because there's little there, I can't say if they're Welsh or not. I can only go by place of birth most of the time. I'd better head to bed soon, I was on here before the pub, and after! --MacRusgail 22:57, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Once the category's established, hopefully people familiar with the subjects will cause them to trickle in over time. I know from personal experience it'd be more satisfying to get them done in one fell swoop, but that's rarely feasible... Alai 23:27, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well I did find one or two by fluke, such as Morfydd Llwyn Owen who just happened to married to someone famous. --MacRusgail 23:29, 29 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Art Food Fun

I'd like to personally thank you for being the only person on the discussion to delete my article who was not only NOT derrogitory and belittling and non-helpful, but was actually friendly. Thank you for your positive attitude and your smile. Kryistina

Nennius

I'm a little puzzled about your addition of a stub template to this article. There just isn't much more to be said about this personage; as the article notes, the records just aren't there. (I know this because I researched & wrote a large chunk of the article.) What criteria are you using to decide which articles should be given a stub note? -- llywrch 00:50, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think this article is expandable, but that's just my opinion. --MacRusgail 00:52, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Irish Scots

Hi I created the Irish British category. Re: Charles Kennedy, I suppose I had been somewhat presumptive taking in the facts that Kennedy is often Irish and his Roman Catholicism. I had presumed that most Catholics in Scotland were of Irish origin, but if this is not the case feel free to remove him from the category. I added Eddie Large BTW.
