First Satanic Church was founded on October 31, 1999 by Karla LaVey which carries on the legacy of her father Anton LaVey. It is a continuation of the original Church of Satan named the Satanic Church. Its headquarters is in San Francisco.
Karla LaVey recreates the atmosphere that her father Anton LaVey promoted when she was growing up and presents shows and public events bringing forth some of her fondest memories of him.
There are always surprises at Karla's shows. In February there was a Valentine's Day Show. Loads of people showed up including Blue Cheer lead singer Dickie Peterson. A busty stripper named Ginger did an unexpected bump and grind with a knife shredding off her clothes. A hilarious band called the Fuxedos played.
Karla LaVey had a "Walpurgisnacht" Show in April (1966 was year 1 in the Satanic calendar) to celebrate the 40th year of Satanism, complete with a live Satanic ritual that she headed (wearing a red latex floor to neck lace up the back dress, wow!) Highlights included "Hail Satan", a King Diamond cover band (all are friends of the King, of course)and Brocas Helm who had just returned from a European stadium tour.
Karla LaVey held a Pre-Halloween Benefit show in October to help victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. As she was quoted on a radio interview "Satanists aren't all bad!" A group of guys originally from New Orleans whose families and friends were affected played called The Graves Brothers Deluxe. Boxcar Satan from San Antonio was on tour and was in town to play the show. Very special.
Karla introduces the acts and tells stories about her life and her father. Films are usually shown throughout and there's lots of art and stuff around. She feels that it's important that people learn what the philosophy is really about and not other people's interpretations of it. She's been around since her father's Satanism was just in the talking stages before anything formal began. She witnessed and was a part of the changes throughout the whole thing until her father's death and after. Lots of the people that perform and go to these shows knew Karla's father, Anton and help with them. Many have been around since the start of the original church.
Karla LaVey's Satanic Church presents the 8th Annual Black X Mass Celebration at the Elbo Room this year in S. F. It will be held on X Mass Eve, Dec. 24th at 9 P.M. It's open to the public for a small donation sometimes $6.66. People look forward to Black X Mass even Satan Claus appears, it's considered by many to be the highlight of the year. It's always a great show packed with entertainment and everyone has fun.
