Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is a 2004 album by My Chemical Romance. Considered to be a concept album, or a punk-rock opera it tells the story of two lovers who die in a gunfight in a resturant. The man is sent to Hell only to realize that the woman is still alive. The devil hands the man a gun and tells him to bring him the souls of 1,000 evil men. The man accepts. However, frontman Gerard Way has said that while the album started with a plot in mind, about half of the album isn't related to the plot as much as it is drawn from his own experiences with love and loss.

Response
This album had a positive response to the mainstream community, giving it a place on the MTV stations as a result. The fanbase started to widen about six months after the release as videos were being made and so on. Their original underground fanbase slowly began to get smaller until there were only a few loyal fans left, while the rest are the newer fans; thus leaving a negative impact on the underground fanbase. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge seemed to be a departure from My Chemical Romance's predecessor album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love with less harsh sounding songs and sounding more punk-pop rather than their original emocore sound.
The time following the production for the music video of "Ghost of You" seemed to show a change in fashion for the band; Gerard has shorter hair and drops some weight, Ray also has shorter hair, and so on. MCR's total image has changed as it has been implied by the underground music community; from goth/screamo fashion to simply emokid or punkish fashion. The changes are either appointed in negative fashion or have not been noticed at all (by new fans).
"Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" is based on the story of a man and a woman who are separated by death in a gunfight. He (the man) goes to hell only to realize through the devil that the girl is still alive on the earth. The devil then tells the man he can be with her again if he brings him the souls of one thousand evil men. so the devil hands him a gun and the damned man goes to his grisly task. Though when listening to the record, this sad tale seems to be more a story of some tragic loss and having to deal with it, than what the origianl concept wasΩ --Kdinson 00:01, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
