Rocky Balboa (Working title: Rocky VI) is an upcoming film, the fifth sequel to the Oscar-winning Rocky. Sylvester Stallone will star, write, and direct the film. Filming is to start in December of 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada, then move to Los Angeles, California and Philadelphia as 2006 progresses. The production budget on the 38-day shoot is projected to be $24 million. This will be the first Rocky sequel in over 15 years, the last being Rocky V, released in 1990. Sylvester Stallone will turn 60 years old during filming. The film is currently scheduled for release during the President's Day holiday in 2007.
The film will feature an aging, widowed Rocky, who decides to get into the ring "just to compete," according to Stallone.[1]
Rumors that are likely to be true
- Rocky's age is said to be in the early to mid 50's, but nothing beyond 60.
Rumors that are not true
- Dolph Lundgren, Ivan Drago in Rocky IV will not make a cameo appearance. "He's [Drago] still up in the Siberian gulag I think. Actually, I'm working on another Russian-themed project and I've been thinking back about the Ivan Drago character a little bit," says Lundgren.
Confirmed Facts
- Antonio Tarver will play the role of Mason 'The Line' Dixon.[2]
- Talia Shire's character Adrian, who appears throughout the Rocky saga, is deceased at the start of the film. However, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that she will reprise her character in flashbacks.
- Before Adrian dies, she will reveal to Rocky that Robert (a/k/a "Kid") is actually Clubber Lang's son. Rocky and Clubber subsequently take a paternity test on a nationally-syndicated talk show. Spoiler: The test does indeed prove that "Kid" is Lang's child.
- Lang's son, Robert Balboa, will own a corporation. Sage Stallone will not play the part, actor Milo Ventimiglia, of Gilmore Girls fame, will take over instead.[3]
- Mr. T will reprise his role as his Rocky III character, Clubber Lang. This time, however, Lang will be a commentator.
- Burt Young, Paulie in the series, as well as the composer Bill Conti, who has composed the music for every Rocky movie except for Rocky IV, are both returning.
- Tony Burton, who played Tony Duke throughout the Rocky saga, will again return as Rocky's trainer.
