  • A talk page is primarily for others to be able to get in contact with a user, to discuss edits; this includes asking the user to stop vandalising pages. A such, it acts as a repository of previous requests, so that if further vandalism occurs it's possible to gauge how destructive the user is being. As you might expect, if someone is a known vandal, the admins will be less lenient when considering a temporary block.
Emptying this talk page wipes the slate clean; however, your history does not justify this, so I'm putting it back. The community here would happily welcome you if you made positive contributions rather than negative and rubbish contributions; you might find this easier if you created a username and logged in, which would give you a clean history and a clean talk page; I believe admins can still read your IP and compare to this page, so further negative contributions under different pseudonyms (called "sockpuppetry") would take this IP's contribution history into account, though there's complications on shared computers etc etc.
In summary: your negative contributions so far have caused the responses above, and will continue to cause similar responses if you continue to make negative contributions. However if you intend to make useful edits to Wikipedia, adding useful content where possible and expanding the depth and breadth of information supplied, then we happily welcome you! I'm attaching the standard {{welcome}} boilerplate below, which contains useful things like guidelines on how to write clear and informative articles. --Firien 09:49, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

User: the problem with wikipedia is that both everything has a history, and unless you're an admin you can't close a page. While you have made positive contributions in your history, you have also made negative ones, and until those negative ones are mitigated by positive contributions I will not stand by and allow you to hide the warnings that have been made to you. If you want a clean sheet, create a user account; then only the admins know who you are. I've tried to welcome you to Wikipedia, and would like to believe it's not a wasted welcome; I realise that the way wikipedia is set up means it is a place you can have random conversations with your mates, and make up spurious articles, but step back for a second and think about it. This is a community effort to help build something useful, and you're standing in the crowd kicking things around. There's plenty of places to joke around on the net; why do you have to do it to something that's trying to be useful? --Firien 10:58, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Ok Thank you this is a public computer and therefore we delete old messages. Thank You. --

  • There are many public computers contributing to wikipedia. The point is that the users of the public computers have still been vandals; I've got several other public (in this case, a school) IPs on my watchlist; these IPs are known for their wasteful contributions, and as a result are watched more closely. Just because there's multiple users doesn't justify hiding the computers' history; the negative edits from this IP in question have been made at several different times, and so as a result either:
    1. There is one user who returns and makes these contributions, in which case the IP history is fully relevant
    2. There are multiple users who make these contributions, in which case the IP history is less relevant but the IP should continue to be known as a vandal IP due to the actions of a significant proportion of its users.
My third revert on this article recently, so will invite comment from others if this page is cleared again. --Firien 11:54, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
