Vanadium

A chemical element, in the periodic table vanadium has the symbol V and atom number 23. Discovered by Sefström in 1830.

Vanadium is a metal used in alloys with iron and chromium to form stainless steel. In biology, a vanadium atom is an essential component of some enzymes, particularly the vanadium nitrogenase used by some nitrogen-fixing microorganisms.
