Nuzleaf (コノハナ Konohana in Japan, Blanas in Germany and Pifeuil in France) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise.
Name Origin
Its name is a combination of the words nuzzle, meaning to rub with the nose, which refers to Nuzleaf's long nose, and leaf.
Biology
Nuzleaf is a forest-dwelling Pokémon that is skilled at climbing trees. Though they occasionally venture out of the forest to startle people. They live in holes bored in large trees.
Its long and pointed nose is its weak point, and it loses power if the nose is gripped. For this reason, it dislikes having its long nose pinched.
Nuzleaf will sometimes pull out the leaf on its head and make a flute with it. The sound of Nuzleaf's flute strikes fear and uncertainty in the hearts of people lost in a forest.
Availability
Nuzleaf can only be found in Pokémon Ruby and Emerald on Route 114.
Alternatively, it can be evolved from Seedot at level 14.
Nuzleaf is somewhat of a rarity. On the one hand, it's one of the rare dark types, so he cannot be harmed by Psychic attacks. But it also cannot learn any of the really strong dark techniques, such as Crunch. It's also a grass type, but does not learn how to use Razor Leaf despite the giant leaf upon his head. Nuzleaf does learn Razor Wind, but that technique isn't fantastic due to taking two turns to perform.
Nuzleaf does however, naturally learn explosion, if kept in his Seedot form for long enough before evolution.
Anime Appearances
Nuzleaf appeared in the episode Turning Over A Nuzleaf, while Ash was on Dewford Island. A group of Nuzleaf helped the group's Pokémon to be reunited with Ash and friends.
In another episode, a Shiftry kidnapped Nurse Joy to help a wounded Nuzleaf.
Manga Appearances
Nuzleaf appeared in chapter 185 of Pokémon Adventures, which is in volume 15. While in Petalburg City, Ruby's Mudkip gets into a fight with a wild Nuzleaf.
In the TCG
Nuzleaf has appeared on four trading cards. The first two are as an uncommon grass card in EX Sandstorm. The third is as an uncommon dark card in EX Hidden Legends, and the fourth is as an uncommon grass card again in EX Deoxys.
