Fons Borginon (born Lier, July 12 1966) is a Belgian politician. He is married to Kristin Ex and father of three children: Hendrik, Irene and Margreet. He was awarded a master of laws degree by the University of Leuven, Belgium as well as a master of legal studies in comparative and European law by the University of Florence, Italy. Fons Borginon was also granted by his majesty, Albert II, king of Belgium, knighthood in the Leopold's Order.
He started his political carreer in the KVHV Faternity, a Flemish nationalist students association. He also became the chief editor of Tegenstroom ("Upstream" in Dutch), a nationwide distributed newsletter which advocates Flemish independence from Belgium. After his university years, Fons Borginon joined the Flemish National Party, the now-defunct Volksunie, of which he even became chairman. After the collapse of the Volksunie due to internal problems in 2002, he became member of the VLD.
Fons Borginon is a member of the Belgian House of Representatives since 1995, a member of the Berchem County Council (the legislative body of one of Antwerp's districts) since 2001, chairman of the VLD Berchem since 2004 and VLD majority leader in the Belgian Parliament since 2006.
