Government Flying Service (政府飛行服務隊) is the flying services unit of the Hong Kong Government, mainly for search and rescue (SAR), air ambulance, firefighting, and police operations. It was founded on April 1, 1993 by taking over all non-military operations of the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (RHKAAF).
Today's Government Flying Service is a not a military or defence unit, although the RHKAAF was an auxiliary unit of the United Kingdom Royal Air Force, which reported to the Secretary for Security.
The service operates from the southwestern end of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. Before the opening of the airport in 1998, it operated from the former Hong Kong International Airport at Kai Tak.
