Cranium: Turbo Edition is a variation of the original Cranium board game created by Cranium, Inc. The box markets the game as containing 1,000 all-new cards and 16 outrageous activities.

Gameplay Changes

  • Rather than having a die to determine which activity and how many spaces moved, the game comes with the Turbo timer. To determine the activity, the center red button is held for 5 seconds, and after it being released, one of the colors will be lighted indicating the activity (all four means that the team can choose) and the number of spaces is shown on the three smaller red LEDs. The Turbo timer also serves as the timer, as pressing the red button will start the countdown with music and lights. Once 60 seconds has passed, the music and lights will turn off.
  • Rather than having a Fast/Scenic path, there is only one path. At each Planet Cranium, a team uses the Turbo timer to choose the activity. A card is then chosen from the Turbo Rally deck. The number of correct answers the team gets is how many they move from the Planet Cranium.
  • Once in Cranium Central, the team begins the Finale Rally. To win, a team can choose the activities, drawn from the Turbo Rally decks, in any order. The team gets to keep the card only if they correctly guess two of the three answers. If the team gets all three answers, then they get a bonus turn. A team wins when they have collected a Turbo Rally card from each deck.

Activities

Cranium: Turbo Edition includes some of the activities from the original Cranium game with several new ones.

Creative Cat

  • Zooma - The team is given the card with three zoomed-in images. The team must correctly identify all three objects.
  • Cloodle, Sensosketch, Sculptorades remain in the game.

Data Head

  • Odd Couple - The team is given a category and five terms. The team must correctly identify which two terms do not belong in the group.
  • Factoid, Polygraph, and Selectaquest remain in the game.

Word Worm

  • Mindmeld - This activity involves two or more members of a team. They are given a topic and must write down three words that come to mind. To win the card, at least one term must be matched between two teammates.
  • Team Gnilleps - Exactly like the regular Gnilleps, except the entire team spells the word backwards (each player contributes a letter on their turn).
  • Lexicon and Zelpuz remain in the game. Blankout, Gnilleps, and Spellbound removed.

Star Performer

  • Sideshow - The team chooses a performer and a puppet teammate. The performer, after getting the answer, must move the other teammate's arms and legs like a puppet without talking or sound effects to get the team to guess the answer.
  • Starstruck - Given three clues, the team must guess the celebrity that best fits the clues.
  • Cameo and Humdinger remain in the game. Copycat removed.

Turbo Rally deck

The Turbo Rally deck is used when a team is on a Planet Cranium or during a team's Finale Rally (in Cranium Central). Each card has three answers, and the team tries to get as many answers during 60 seconds as the number of correct answers is the number of spaces they move.
