Nick Licata is the president of the Seattle City Council. As of September 2004 he is chair of the Public Safety, Civil Rights & Arts Committee, vice chair of the Utilities & Technology Committee, and a member of the Finance & Budget Committee.

Licata received his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1969 and his master's degree in sociology from the University of Washington in 1973.

While earning the support of most liberals, his lack of support for the city subsidies for the Seattle Supersonics and comments indicating that Seattle loses nothing without them has earned him the wrath of local sports fans.
