Open Compute Project is an initiative announced on April 2011 by Facebook to openly share custom data center designs to improve efficiency across the industry.[1]The level of openness was historically unprecedented since companies that custom design their data centers tend to want to keep their designs a closely held corporate secret.[citation needed]
