Some automation products do not require a central control system, e.g. remote control of a lamp from wireless fob.
Nevertheless when home automation devices need to change how they function by time of day, or by date, or by some other criteria such as "no one is home," then an intellegent controller needs to be purchased.
This article will document what products are currently available as controllers for home automation systems.
