iBall logo (now on Commons)

Article(s): Videocon d2h, iBall (company)

Request: Please replace these vector logos with the official ones. They were (shabbily :P) created by me, since I didn't look for the official ones. Thanks. Sn1pe! (talk) 01:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I could only find the iBall official logo. I uploaded it to Commons since it's a very simple logo and ineligible for copyright. The Videocon logo looks like it was made in Photoshop and I doubt there was ever a vector version of it. I've always been of the opinion that if I can't find the official vector version of the logo, then I wouldn't create one myself, since it will be superseded by the official anyway. Sorry for being impatient. :/ But it's been five or six days since you taken this one and sixteen days since the first person said he taken it and since I first posted this.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 08:58, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about this, I am currently in the middle of exam week and have less time than I would have liked. I have finished parts of the arms but does not yet have the full achievement, the supporters are very complex and will probably need a lot of attention. Sodacan (talk) 01:40, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, exams. Don't worry, take your time. I'll just move it down here so it doesn't get archived. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:06, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed that this entry and the next (signatures) have been marked stale many times, but the stale tag gets removed. The last graphist response is over 5 months ago - is there a reason why the normal archival process should not be applied here? Jon C (talk) 10:39, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

All these are rather complex-it would be better and more efficient if these are submitted to the top 4 of the day.Gauravjuvekar (talk) 05:49, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many of these are of very low resolution - certainly not enough for me to pick out what is supposed to be what. This is borderline undoable. Jon C (talk) 08:56, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - sadly, there just isn't enough detail in the originals to redraw these - there are lots of intricate details in the images, but the details of the intricacy are indescernible at this resolution. I did some searching, and I can find nothing which exactly matches these for format. There are a few "12 tribes" images I could find, but not set in the Star of David like these, and not with quite the same graphic content, so it's really difficult even to know where one could "start" from - sorry. Article(s): Fluorine, (currently in User:TCO/Sandbox/Working: Fluorine)

Request: Please

  • SVG
  • also make subscripts for the WF6, ReF6, and NF3 numbers.
  • Crisp up the text.
  • Make the yellow=#FFFF99
  • Anything else to pretty it up.

I will display it at 700px centered in article and want it readable. Feel free to play with the boxes or colors (but keep yellow for the fluorine, it's a theme). Also, there is a logic for which boxes are above which (major uses higher).

I would like to work it up for a Featured Picture try (they are sympathetic if there is significant research, not just prettiness, anyhow...let's try (you get the star too!)

Replacement for Gravitational potential animation

Request: As pointed out in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Physics#File:Gravitational potential.gif this animation has severe problems (from the physical point of view). So would it be possible to re-create a similar but correct animation or alternatively edit/change this one to become correct? If this is not possible, I will have to remove/delete the animation from the mentioned pages... Thanks and greetings --DrTrigon (talk) 21:33, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oo-kay... since this request seams not to be of any interest to you - I corrected the most problematic things by myself and uploaded the new animation to commons. In fact the file size is smaller and it has become more easy to modify now... ;) But it would be a really good and cool thing if someone could have a look at it, since I am not a wikigraphists... :) Thanks and greetings --DrTrigon (talk) 12:23, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Hi DrTrigon - I'm not sure if it's not of interest, or just a skill-set mismatch. Many of us "wikigraphists" (and certainly speaking for myself) are primarily vector illustrators, and an animation like this is just not something we have the skills to handle. Sorry. Jon C (talk) 13:20, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know if I do have those skills... ;) I just started up GIMP and enjoyed... :) Anyway I think this can be considered as done now - or what do you think? Greetings --DrTrigon (talk) 17:07, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Renders correctly as a PNG, but has a strange black box overlayed on it. Made in Inkscape, where it looks fine. Anyone know a fix? Thanks, ResMar 17:41, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

  Done This is a common problem with our SVG renderer. It's usually caused by flowed text so make sure you don't use it in your files. You seem to have accidentally drawn a flow region and that caused the problem, even though you didn't type any text inside. To fix this, either open the file in Inkscape and delete/convert to normal unflowed text, or open the file in Notepad, search for "flowroot" and delete everything between the two tags (as long as they don't contain any text, of course). I've already applied the latter fix to your file. Cheers! -- Orionisttalk 20:50, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was aware of the flowed text problem, but my oh my! You can cause this with an empty text field? AS for the txt fix, I certainly know now. Thanks, ResMar 04:35, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Redraw as SVG, without background gradient... Trex2001 (talk) 07:49, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): The extensive use of gradient in the logo make it very time-consuming to decipher and reproduce correctly in vector. You may want to contact the organization to see if they have one at hand. Jon C (talk) 05:20, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree with Jon that this shouldn't be redrawn. I'd even say that any seal or logo shouldn't be redrawn, and only official vector versions be used. Luckily, these are usually available from PDFs on official websites. I found a vector version of this seal in one of the university's newsletters, so this request is now   Done. Good find... you can always count on Orionist to come up with the elegant solution ;) I am of the same opinion on seal/logos/signatures/historical documents, where "vectorizing" invariably includes interpretation on our parts.
