- For minor uncontested improvements where the original is unlikely to be used in lieu of the improved version, overwriting is the sensible thing to do. A new file adds unnecessary clutter and makes more work for others who then have to update articles manually with the new image. The offending editor is the original uploader, and original uploaders are notorious for defending "their image" from edits, often requesting "consultation" first.
