Vernon Davis (born January 31, 1984 in Washington, D.C.) is an American football tight end for the San Fransisco 49ers. He was the top tight end prospect in the 2006 NFL Draft due to a strong performance at the scouting combine. While at the combine, he ran the 40 yard dash in 4.38 seconds, which is faster than most wide receivers and running backs. It is believed to be the fastest time ever recorded by a tight end, and has been confirmed as being the fastest time by a Maryland tight end. He also led all tight ends at the 2006 combine with a broad jump of 10 feet 8 inches and a vertical leap of 42 inches. His display of physical tools at the combine has greatly improved his draft status. In his junior year at Maryland, he had the second most receiving yards of any player in the ACC. Because of his amazing physical potential, Davis was projected as an early first-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Vernon Davis was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the sixth overall pick.
