Questo articolo elenca le prime 10 ~ 25 più grandi società di semiconduttori, leader di vendite dal 1987.
L'articolo distingue tra due tipi di società di semiconduttori:
- Produttori di circuiti integrati o chip.
- Produttori Fabless come nVidia e Qualcomm (ad esclusione degli impianti di produzione), che disegnano e progettano il chip ma commissionano la propria produzione a fonderie di semiconduttori.
Gartner Dataquest Corporation ha la storia più lunga, come editore di riferimento di questa classifica. Un'altra fonte è iSuppli Corporation a partire dall'anno 2000. In questo articolo si prendono in considerazione solo i ricavi delle attività di vendita di semiconduttori ma non sono prese in considerazione le divisioni delle imprese al di fuori di questo ambito (sono esclusi, ad esempio, le linee di business di IBM).
La classifica per un determinato anno viene pubblicato nel marzo dell'anno successivo, quando tutte le relazioni finanziarie delle aziende sono chiuse.
