Jane's next love interest was Mark Granger who proposed to her at Christmas 1988. This didn't last as Mark's mother took an instant dislike towards Jane.

In 1989 Jane fell in love with Des Clarke, who had been widowed a year before and they became engage. This Engagement came to an end when Nell suffered a heart attack and Jane went to England to nurse her back to health. Des waited for his bride-to-be, but A few months later, Jane phoned and told Des that she couldn't go through with the wedding and settled there.
