Template:R to user namespace/doc

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Paine Ellsworth (talk | contribs) at 03:01, 21 October 2014 (clarify text). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Purpose

This redirect category (rcat) template sorts redirects into two categories:

  1. Category:Redirects to user namespace – for cross-namespace redirects, and
  2. Category:Unprintworthy redirects – only redirects from the main-article namespace (mainspace)
  • At some point in the future, Jimmy Wales wants to make more printed versions of Wikipedia encyclopedia articles. Mainspace redirects that target pages in the user namespace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.

This rcat is not for use on redirects that are in the user namespace. If placed on a redirect that is a user page, it will not populate the expected categories; it will instead be sorted to Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace.

Usage

  • Apply this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[User:(target page name)]]

{{R to user namespace}}
This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Template {{This is a redirect}} may also be used to add this and up to seven appropriate rcats to a redirect.
  • Use this rcat on all redirects to a page in the user namespace from a page outside of the user namespace. This rcat should never be used on a redirect in the user namespace that targets any other page.
As noted, this rcat may be used to categorize a user talk page that targets a user page.
