My opinion
Vandalism is pointless and annoying to find, even when using great tools like VandalProof and Popups. Another annoying thing is userpage vandalism, but the community on Wikipedia quickly reverts that.
It is important to encourage new contributors, however many of their first contributions are quickly deleted, causing those user to refuse to edit WP again. When anybody marks a page for deletion which is a contributor's first new page, they should put a note on that user's page telling them why. I didn't want to write this all the time, so I made a template: Template:Firstarticle
