Ponte della Paglia

ponte di Venezia

The Bridge of the Straw (Ponte della Paglia) is a bridge in Venice that crosses the Canal of the Palace (Rio del Palazzo) at the southeast corner of Palazzo Ducale. This is the canal that separates the Sestiere of Saint Mark from Castello. The bridge is popular with tourists because of its excellent view of the Bridge of sighs. The name “of the straw” derives (according to Tassini, “Veneziane Curiosity” ) from the boats loaded with straw that moored there, as evidenced by some laws and decrees of Repubblica forbidding this practice.
