Electron (formerly known as Atom Shell[2]) is the main framework behind two notable open source software applications: GitHub Atom (text editor)[3] and Microsoft Visual Studio Code.[4] GitHub Electron is an open source framework developed by GitHub.[5] Electron allows for the development of desktop GUI applications using the Node.js framework, originally used for the development of backend web applications.
