Villa Brivio is a 19th century building which is in the fraction of Baraggia in Brugherio. It's commune's property and it hosts a housing complex and a mental home center.
History and architecture
Today's building configuration is very articulated and it's attached to a development overlooking Santa Margherita's street[1]. The only testimony about the original structure (dated back to 16th century and lost) is the Saint Margherita of Antiochia's shirne, annexed to the building[2]. Since 1869 the mansion became marquuess Brivio's property, who it takes name from. In recent years it was bought by Brugherio's Commune and restored between 1994 and 1999. Now it hosts the mental home Le Magnolie[1].
The U-layout is the result of reworkings that Villa Brivio underwent during19thcentury, when the buildings were isolated with a park, realized above the old aristocratic house which was Giovan Battista Bernareggi's property[3]. At both sides of the big entrance there are buildings in which there was a porter's lodge. It takes to a inner garden hidden in an L-shape construction, composed by two parts that were built in different centuries: one is 19th century, the other is 20th century. On the back of the last one is placed a park in which a turret rises above the roof of the building[2]. On the exterior as decoration there are stringcourse cornices, wainscot and squares[1].
The homonymous park is annex to Villa Brivio and it is one of the green area of the city.
