Whilst still staying true to their origins this album demonstrates a real maturity as a band. On this third studio album, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club provide a melodic mix of harmonic poetry and instrumentals embracing the sub-genre of bluesy punk. To date, it may possibly be the best example of their genre.

Many critics note that Howl is a move in a different direction for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. This is true to a certain extent however it should also be noted that BRMC have always exhibited a subtle bluesy undertone amongst their hard punching punk anthems. Perfect examples include two tracks off the BRMC album; “Love Burns” and “Spread Your Love”.
